Product Description
A modern dress watch backed by more than 100 years of watchmaking expertise, the Glycine Combat Classic Open Heart automatic is a cross between a military aesthetic and something much more formal. The 24-hour markers and luminous hands, pips, and indices give the watch a bit of an edge; but the open heart and textured leather strap allude to its fancier side Read More

Open heart design is ugly. Why do watchmakers keep ruining otherwise good designs with this hack?

I have this in silver. It’s just ok. The strap it comes with is garbage. Very stiff and never seemed to break in. Lume is just ok. No real staying power. I paid a bit less due to eBay coupon several months back but decent price I think . Higher beat rate is nice. Face is more silvery in person.

Can someone tell me if there is still value in this drop even if it's a Sellita movement? If yes, then how common is a Sellita on a watch common at this price vs an ETA? Edit: Saw this article, seems ETA is making their movement more rare and possibly more sought after by lowering production and Sellita is fulfilling orders. https://www.ablogtowatch.com/making-sense-of-the-sellita-sw200-movement-same-as-eta-2824-2/ Also a comparison between ETA 2824 and Sellita SW200 http://watchflipr.com/movements/sellita-sw200-vs-eta-2824-2/

Invicta bought glycine 08/2016 at that point they were still selling eta stock if you still have the papers and they say gl224 25 jewels it’s eta 26 jewels sellita I was buying eta glycines 18 months ago really cheap on eBay when they were selling off old stock all eta chances are 3 years ago you bought eta that’s probably why they are still working

Yes, good point Andrew. I've read that there are three tiers in quality or regulation in ETA - never heard the same about Sellita. If so, I would expect that the cheaper the watch the lower the quality of mech. I am no expert though, I am still learning about watch manufacture. It is annoying that the tier of movement often is not described in a watch's description. I have a German watch with a basic Sellita SW-200 mech (but with in-house manufacture) that keeps COSC time so I don't get my panties in a twist if a watch has Sellita or ETA.

This is most likely a Selita movement. Drop dropped the ball again by not doing it’s reseach. Glycine hasn’t used eta movements in at least 3 years. They just never changed the names of their reference numbers so people assume they are eta. I’m not sure if this is intentional on Glycines part or not, but it is a bit shady none the less.

Maybe this is old stock, which may account for the low price; I guess drop often seems to act like a clearing house for old stock. I am almost sure that the last Raymond Weil 300 chrono is a discontinued model ,therefore a low price ,and I must say that whenever I have looked at Glycine 40mm or smaller they have seemed to advertise the ETA auto. I am not aware of the specifications of these movements but it does make me wonder if the Sellita sw200 is physically larger than the ETA 2824?

ETA movement, sapphire and exhibition caseback on nice leather strap!! 2 or 3 more mm I might just have jumped at it at this price. Open heart not my usual bag; but on this watch it justs lifts the dial of the combat classic. The gold trim gives it that dress look, and finally a dress watch with lume. Someone or maybe more will be happy; wonder how long to sold through?

Most likely a Selita movement despite the description. Decent deal though, but you can usually find it at this price on Ashford often. They also always have great prices on the 43mm Combat as well. Give them a look if you prefer the larger size.
