I got the GL0078 (red bezel) from a previous drop (10/2017). Initially, I was disappointed with it. The lume on this watch is pretty poor, which is a major failing as a diver's watch, and I'm a lume junkie. Over time though, I've grown to like it more. The case and bracelet are nicely polished. The red bezel looks nice--the fact that it's aluminum hasn't been a problem for me. One thing that sets this watch apart from other diver's watches is that it's noticeably thinner than average. It'd be a really good watch if the lume wasn't so bad. So if you like the look of a diver's watch, but they've all been too bulky for you, and you don't care much about lume, you'll probably like this a lot.
TigoleI have the same one but selling it now to get the golden eye. Good thing about MD is I'm able to sell it at a little profit. Though I'd still get it again in the near future.
TigoleAgreed on the lum, not very bright. Got the 086 Stealth last drop, and while it's hard to read in dim light, still love the thing. Very solid but agree on the thin comment. Very well made, and I'm still really loving how cool it looks, at least to my tastes.
TigoleI'm actually shocked to hear this opinion on the lume. Admittedly it is nothing I am big on nor normally put much weight into, but my GL0091 really struck me when I walked into a room with the blinds down on a Texas afternoon and it was impressively glowing. I doubt it has to do with a change in manufacturing since I bought this earlier this year, but I do notice that my model (green bezel) also have the numbers with lume whereas the red does not. That be a factor in appearance.
Glad it's growing on you overall though, I'm really a big of this watch.
arobilottoThe grey painted numbers on my red bezel version are lumed too, but much weaker than the green indices. I can shine a flashlight or uv light on the dial, and the indices will glow impressively too. The problem is that it fades much quicker than other watches I have with superluminova or Seiko's lumibrite. I think they just applied it too thinly. It's possible they might have applied it thicker on dials with green lumed numerals, or improved their manufacturing in subsequent batches. Maybe I'll have to pick up a green dialed version one day and see.
TigoleThanks Tigole, I really have nothing to compare this one against (aside from barely there lume on lower quality watches), much less having an actual need to it so I'm probably a bad reference.... Definitely would not recommending picking up a green bezel just check the lume - although I do like it, especially the mesh band- more watches should come in mesh!
Glad it's growing on you overall though, I'm really a big of this watch.
