Carbon is what got me interested in designer keycaps years ago, and now, I'm a proud owner of this amazing set. I was originally hesitant about the r0 and r5 rows, but it turned out great on my norbatouch. Only regret is that I didn't pick up two sets.
Beautiful keycap set that I added to my existing Blue MX Switches. I have gotten so many compliments at the game studio that I work at. You are a god among us T0mb3ry
AWESOME Keycaps.. I have ordered previous set for my Ergo Dox version.. I got one for my normal keyboard layout.. I haven't decided on which brand of keyboard to get to put these on.. Other than that GMK has been the best designer of keycaps in my opinion..
Already had SA Carbon so at first I thought that GMK Carbon is too expensive and that I should skip it. Somehow I changed my mind and went in for a base kit, mostly because of the R0 and R5 being added for the first time to a custom set (R5 was available in the past in sets like GMK Blue Alert but with limited compatibility).
I the end I don't regret it, R0 is a welcome addition, especially for compact boards like the KBD75 in the picture, as otherwise the function keys row would be below the numbers row in height. I'm still trying to figure out if R5 is of any use but it would probably require a keyboard with an even bigger angle than the KBD75 for it to be actually useful. As is, on the KBD75, my opinion about it is neutral.
Color matching is not 100% compared to SA Carbon, but it's close enough and I like the GMK colors too. Could also be a matter on how the light hits the caps at different angles due to the differences between the two profiles.
As for quality, well, it GMK so it is the best you can get in double shot ABS. My only wish is that GMK would update their trays as they are not exactly fit for their purpose anymore with so many keys added to the base sets. With all the extras coming in sealed foil packages that once opened are no longer of use, I find myself storing all additional keys in zip bags.
This is my first GMK set. I love it. Period.
Seriously though, the fit and finish of the keycaps is like nothing I've tried before. The legends are RIDICULOUSLY sharp. I'm so happy I bought this set!
But in this batch i miss the options for the Ergodox and Plank. The older set had the better options for this type of keyboard. Also the german z / y caps are not included. Swapping them leads to wrong profiles.
Top quality! As with everything GMK.
My only "problem" is that I want to pimp my Corne low profile kailh choc keyboard too... :p. Please make a theme for those switches, mr T0mb3ry.
