Is there any reason that the knees and buttocks area aren’t reinforced? I look at this companies products frequently, but I always worry. “Ah, they’ll be a hole there. Ah, another there.” Is this an ultralight concern, that reinforcements would make it too heavy?

MassdropologistI'd say yes, it's the weight. Good for after the hike, and sleeping. And one of the downsides to ultralight backpacking is having to be especially careful in using your gear.

MassdropologistIt's not a huge issue unless you are fond of scraping your butt across logs, get lazy while wearing crampons in the tent, or stand next to campfires...or if you happen to actually hike in these on brushy trails with thorny plants. Even the 10d fabrics are surprisingly durable for the most part, but yeah, they are very thin and fine denier. With jackets that are worn with a pack, yes you can see some early wear in the areas where they are abraded by shoulder straps or a hip belt/padding, and even from stubbly chins, but if you can limit those abrasive scenarios these fabrics will last a long time. Easy to patch up with tenacious tape or silicone, too, if needed.
