This little silver box brought me from the shadows of pseudo-high-resolution audio into the enlightenment and realization of just how good 96kHz+ FLAC — and my HD650s — can sound. And their customer service is incredible.
Note that Headphone.com sells this for $1895 and offers buyers a 10% discount:
Our Massdrop price is still better, but If you miss this drop, head on over for a better-than-MSRP price.
You pair such a priced DAC with a headphone that is only considered mid-fi?
Also this thing I would pay 600 for no more no less.
One upgrade at a time man. Not all of us are made of money. HD 600's are great, and can take advantage of a good signal chain, even if they are not summit-fi.
This DAC is worth much more than $600 man. It's not cheap, but it keeps up with similarly priced units as well as DACs that are more expensive. It's one of the best DAC/amp combos that I've heard. For reference's sake, the best combo unit that I've heard is probably the Chord Hugo TT...which costs over double what the m920 costs.
What AudioMan said. At one point, the HD650s were budget-breakers for me. Much later, my eye got to wandering and I busted my budget again on the m920. I've got a pair of rosewood LCD2's on my Amazon/Headphone wishlist. Donations welcome. :)
Haha since when is the HD 6X0 mid-fi?
