You folks are missing one of the most important features of the m9XX, the volume control. You can't compare this to an amp with a regular potentiometer. Like the m920, the m9XX maintains perfect balance through a 100dB range in 0.5dB steps, critical for headphone listening and impossible with a pot. Even with the most sensitive, isolating IEMs in a quiet room and music squashed with limiter plugins you can turn it down as low as necessary and with perfect balance. I couldn't do that my old amp (HeadRoom Home) so it was something I looked for when replacing it (with an m920.)
Now, I wouldn't consider a headphone amp that lacks either such a volume control or a crossfeed. Even though I don't need it at this time, I'm thinking about picking up an m9XX for my next office job. With the big 'ol mute button right on top it seems like it's designed with desk/computer jockeys in mind.
Point well made. This is the exact reason for me to chose m9xx over the iFi micro iDSD.
