SuembeauxI was flip-flopping back and forth myself and could only get one of them. I decided to go with icon because it's just so damn clean. Text is definitely more of a classic look. You really can't go wrong with either.
GeorgiosJust looking at some samples on their website, where unless I'm mistaken the "off-centering" seems more or less par for the course. So...maybe not exactly a feature, but not a bug.
Look at the num pad set on this page...

JebbraI do not believe that what you see on my pictures is or was intended. To make good example go to my link on dropbox and check out the Common Kit. Have a look at the "X", one is in the middle the other one too much on the left. Next the "U", one is OK the other one too much left.
@matt3o wrote this on his web page about round 4:
"Attention to details. The legends were designed one by one with an incredible attention to detail. The characters are not aligned to the absolute center, but to the visual center. For example the right arrow → visually weights to the right, so to make it look like it is really in the center we had to slightly shift it to the left. Countless of these small adjustments were applied to reach what I believe has become a little piece of art."
Now have again a look at the pictures on dropbox, this time check the Icon Modifiers. The "Print" cap is the worst. You do not need a ruler or anything else to tell that it is totally off centered. Same with the "Pause". You can not tell me that this is visual center... (:
Do not get me wrong, I do not want to blame anyone. My suggestion is that there is or was (keep in mind we are talking about round 3) a production machine at SP which was not well calibrated... I hope that this kind of problem will not affect the current round 4. You also can see the problem on the demo pictures at the description (the caps you see on the pictures are from round 3!):

Also I like to mention that I noticed that the legends do not have always the same thickness or sharpness. You can check that also on my dropbox link on the "Legend Differences" folder. You also see this problem in the demo picture (the caps you see on the pictures are from round 3!):
GeorgiosAs someone who fully grasps the concept of visual center v. mathematical center – I can say without doubt that many of these examples I've seen are in clear violation of both. This was not the designers intention, and can only be the result of a poorly calibrated machine and poor QC to match. They are (still) beautiful keys based on some beautiful work by @matt3o – so let's hope this issue with production is small enough that it can be addressed.
GeorgiosAaaah sorry I just visit your dropbox and that's clearly not inteded cause there's two same keys but different centerin. Let's we all hope this (last) round will be well QC-ed.
GeorgiosThanks so much for the clear pictures and gridlines, I'd love for this to be in the main post.
Do you have any images of the caps once placed on a keyboard, or any pictures of the caps flipped, showing the stems with the same gridlines?
My main concern with this purchase is the QC. For the amount we're spending, and the wait involved, they really should be treated as a high-quality set, so issues like the ones you've shown would warrant a replacement (in my book).
Somebody posted a picture of their Granite set on Reddit a week or so ago, and the alignment of the keys sort of freaked me out. Here's the picture they uploaded (not mine)

They didn't upload the set to show the crazy alignment, infact, nobody seemed to notice it - that's the part that worried me. Is this how the set will look on most boards, or was this just the results of a bad batch?
As this drop grows closer to the deadline, I'm starting to get cold feet. It looks stellar in the showcase images, but many of the user images are less than ideal.
GeorgiosI talked about this issue multiple times, but I'm going to repeat myself.
Firstly, let me say that I do not own any round 3, but I have both round 1 and round 2 and they both are within my specifics and SP margin of error, so I'm pretty sure that the problem with round 3 is that they rushed the sublimation process due to the huge number of orders. This time the drop has been split between two batches so things should be better.
That being said, dye-sub is a pretty tricky process. SP has an "acceptable" margin of error in the range of +/-5%. The 1u keycap printable area is about 12mm, so the text can be shifted in any direction by 0.6mm. That doesn't sound like much but with such small and precise legend it can be noticeable.
Legend thickness can also vary. That depends on how well the legend sheet adheres to the keycap during the sublimation. If the vacuum is not perfect the legend can be slightly blurry. A little variation is to be expected, even though, as I said, none of the granite I own are terribly flawed. We know SP QC is not perfect, but they were always available and shipping replacements when the error was obvious.
matt3oAs I said did not want to blame somebody. I only wanted to mention this since it is one of the best sets out there and we or at least I only try to help to make it even better... (:
