Great Design. Poor materials, craftsmanship and quality control.
My pack has been used for a total of 12 hiking days and 132 miles. In that time my hip belt ripped and I had to return it at my cost to Gregory for warranty repair. They fixed it so well I couldn't even see the repair. Unfortunately I used it again and the tear is back and once again I need to ship it at my expense to Gregory for repair. I wanted to use this on a through hike but I don't see how it can trust it to go 2000 plus miles.

dps357In all fairness to Gregory....I returned it for warranty repair a second time. They replaced the pack with a brand new one. I will post again if I have any problems with the second pack and/or the hip belt.

Really impressed with this bag
The layout of the bag is actually very intuitive. I'm really impressed with it. Hopefully, will have a chance to pick up some more in the future.

Light-weight, nicely featured
I bought the octal 45 earlier this year and just took it out on a 3 night backpacking trip to Isle Royale. This pack is very comfortable, and seems quite sturdy at a fairly light-weight.

Just took this out on a quick 11 mile hike and it carried the weight comfortably. I tend to carry a max weight of 25 lbs. I do agree with other reviewers that the shoulder straps lacking the ability to add accessories is a little disappointing. Other than that I loved it.

The size and weight of this pack is perfect. I'm a semi minimalist and carry 15-25 pounds. This pack carries very well. The only gripe I have is the shoulder straps aren't very accesory friendly. Other than that, I'm thrilled.

My fourth Gregory pack purchase. Like the other three (Baltoro70, Deva70, & Zulu65), this latest purchase (Optic48) is also 5 star quality. Only wishes (thus far) are: it would be nice if the hip belt pockets were large enough for a decent phone (my S9 won't fit, if it's in a hard case - which is always is). More utilization of the shoulder straps for clip-ons, etc would also be handy (or mesh type pocket/holder) for minor things like lip balm, snacks, a small knife, or paper(!) map.

This is a very good, lighter, backpack. I've used it on two separate overnights (30-35#) and a dayhike (~20#). It has a great lightweight frame. There are enough adjustments to make the carry comfortable. I needed this pack to be able to carry a bear canister and that it does. The main mesh pocket is great for storage. The side pockets are easy to reach with the pack on. Having praised it, there are some areas for improvements. The hip belt pockets are too small (Moto X4 will not fit). The small buckles saves weight but can be hard to use with gloves on. The rain cover is nice but was it necessary to add a zippered pocket that adds weight? The top lid is also on the smaller size, especially when you secure it down and the curvature causes you to lose volume. I wish the shoulder harness area was utilized, maybe a mesh pocket. But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Bought this for my wife and we just finished a 25 mile section hike of the AT in Tennessee/ NC. She loves the pack! She said it was extremely comfortable from sub freezing temperatures to the low 70s! Great price. Great pack!

Just finished a 36 mile AT winter hike and the pack performed great! Felt comfortable all day and was easily managed a loaded pack. I sleep cold so I really stuffed the pack with no problems. Dropped 2lbs off my Osprey pack.

This pack has served me very well over the last 8 months. It checks off all my needs of being lightweight, roomy enough, and very comfortable to wear. I took off one star because I find the closure system takes a little bit longer than other packs, and I have some concerns about the durability of the mesh side pockets, which have a couple of small tears.
