I just got back from a quick overnight with my Optic 48. This thing is awI feel better than the 2018 Osprey Exos and for the slight extra weight it is better than Granite Gear Crown 2 Pack. I’m very happy and I paid $165 for mine!

benkeri Loved both packs, but for me the Crown would work best if I was planning to have more than 3-4 days of food and gear with me. Anything less than 4 days fits perfectly in the Gregory Optic 48. Most of my adventures are 3 season, so I do not carry more than a down and maybe a base layer...if you head out in winter for more tan 2 nights maybe get the Crown. I typically carry a 3 person tent for me and my dog, all cooking gear, backpacker meals, snacks and dog food. My base weight is about 12-14 lbs and I never really reach above the 25lbs mark full pack weight. So far I have been very comfortable with the Optic. Im not sure the return policy here, but I did buy the crown 2 for REI first and decided to return it after a few camping trips to trade for the Gregory. They asked no questions and gave the full refund. If you are in the fence I would say do what I did. I hope this helps decide! Happy trails!
