First, I'll apology to reader every one. I'm sorry, using of poor English sentence.
I have sister-pen of this pen. That brand name is Cesare Emiliano made in Italy. Perhaps the base manufacture I think that is the same, so I’ll write an impression about this pen. My pen nib is a 18KT. Also barrel is horn of water buffalo. So cannot be a comparison of the hard and soft about nib. But, not so much of a difference in terms of weight, so I think can be mentioned the impressions about the balance. It's a very nice matching in my hand. Regarding a weight, might slightly entering the heavy category, It has brought a good effect for the balance and preeminence stability of this pen. Not tired. Price, also much cheaper compared with Cesare brand. There is a combines the high performance and look of beauty. I decided to buy this pen also this time.
RuceroHello, Cesare Emiliano brand is another company that nothing have to share with us. Or better it is my past since I have started as worker with them but after some years I preferred leave and do my own pens since pretty tired from the lack of quality and poor details. So I thank them to have shown me how the pens are made but a lot of water have passed under bridges... By the way we too have buffalo horn pens. Regards Maurizio

StubnibHello, and first of all THANK-you for taking the time to respond to our inquiries, it is most gracious of you.
I am trying determine the trim/nib finish on the Mass Drop pen...as compared to the similar/same pen on your website..the Massdrop finsik looks shinier... (I like the one on your website better)
your website says:" The fittings and solid silver 925 parts of the fountain pen are black gold plated 18 k"..black gold plated Medium size nib...
the Massdrop description says: Cap, section, and accents: .925 sterling silver, ruthenium plating Ruthenium-plated stainless steel nib..the cap and grip section are made of sterling silver and plated in ruthenium (also called “black gold”)
Are the trim and nib the same finish/color on your wensite and on Mass Drop? ..they both say "BLACK GOLD".. looks like the one on your website 18K black gold plated, while the Mass Drop says sterling silver plated in Ruthenium also know as BLACK GOLD...??
I thank-you in advance for your reply
Bill
STINGFANHello Bill, To answer you: First the pen is the same, what is different are the hands of the photograph... on our website the pics was made by us at the better way we was able but our job is produce pens and not take pics... Massdrop have professional photographs among their staff and the pics are made at the best and with their own taste.
Then about pen features: it have the cap body and the point section body made of solid 925 silver, then we have plated with ruthenium. When you will have the pen in your hands you will see the hallmarks released by our government, through these hallmarks you are granted about the real silver made parts. Then all the small fittings parts as clipm threads, rings are made of steel/brass and then plated with ruthenium as well.
Ruthenium is a precious metal which belong to the platinum group of metals. So it is even more coslty then the gold itself. Then here in Europe (but i presume in US as well) is commercial know as "Black gold" so when you ask in some jewelry about "black gold" the staff understand you would have a precious item plated with this black and precious metal.
Hooping to have helped you! Regards from italy Mauriizo
StubnibMaurizio, Can you tell me whether the bog oak has been treated to preserve it? And if so, what method was used, oil and varnish, or acrylic resin? Thanks in advance.
TherocHello, all pur pens made with natural woods (briar wood, olive wood, bog oak) are leaved natural. We never put any varnish nor acrylic s since these things put wood "under glass" leaving a plastic look. On contrary wood need to breathe. The only thing we use is bee wax. The one you could purchase for your wood furnishings. By the way I suggest you after a while to put a new layer of bee was and then polish it when it is dryied with a wool clooth. This will keep the wood smooth and new for many years. Regards! Maurizio
TherocHello, all our wood made pens (briar wood, olive wood, bog oak) are leaved natural. We think that put on them acrylics or varnish is like put a plastic layer who choke the wood. It need to breath and move as any live material. For this reason we only put a layer of bee wax and polish this wax when it became dry with a wool cloth as old carpenters. More I would suggest you to do the same after a while (I mean once at year). Is enough you but a small quantity of bee wax, the same sold for furnishings. Put a light layer on the fossile wood, then avait 30 minutes more or less and then when it is dryed polish with a wool cloth. Use some strenght so the wax will be warm up and your pen will return smooth and new and you have only used old natural thing as bee wax. Regards from Italy. Maurizio
