Product Description
A rare find for the pen collector who appreciates fine Italian craftsmanship, the Grifos Mandragola takes its name from the mandrake, a popular symbol in folklore believed to bring good fortune and cure a variety of ailments. The pen is available in three striking styles, each featuring bevel-patterned sterling silver and richly colored olive or briar wood Read More
The briar wood and olive wood barreled pens are mislabeled... take it from a briar pipe smoker.
ETA: the wood capped pen in the final picture appears to have a briar - not olive - cap. Are the wood capped pens actually olive, or are they briar?
DermottHello, your opinion is king but fortunately many people here have evaluated these silver and wood pens in far more better way, is enough scroll down. However thank you for your purchase (if any) . Regards from Italy. Maurizio
EcchiWhaleAn all-briar option would be fantastic. Half my brain is screaming, "You don't need another pen," and the other half is screaming, "BUT IT'S BRIAR".
Good looking briar pens are hard to come by.
Mick123No problem. I understand now. Your question was positive, it have give us the occasion to explain our artisan work and world so thank you! Regards from Italy.
HermieHello, thank you so much for your interest on our pens. Usually we have available solid 18 ct stubnib but not in this drop this time, sorry. The available nib are shown in the drop text if I rightly remember.
I remain at your disposal!

Going to pass on this one due to the rose gold trim not really being my thing.
Maurizio, I really love the cheaper nib you ran in the oikos. Would you be willing to do a run of that pen again with a solid sterling silver cap and barrel? You said it would be something like 25% more expensive but I really, really, really want to buy an oikos in solid sterling guillotine with that cheaper steel nib.
HoneybadgersHello, thank you so much for your nice words on our pen quality! We could forward this your request to MD staff but the final words belong to them obviously. In the meantime if you would speed up time I would suggest you to visit our marketplaces and sites, we have it available there even if not at Massdrop price level to be clear and fair.
I remain always at disposal! Best from Aosta Valley, Italy

After my last two purchases here for Grifos fountain pens I am extremely disappointed with the quality of craftmanship . Pictures look great but thats the sale pitch if they would show the crappy side no one would buy these pens. You can see my review on one of them here ---> https://www.massdrop.com/buy/58615/reviews#reviews
My experience is similar to that of Honeybadgers. I have 2 Grifos pens in silver and wood and they look exactly like their pictures: stunning! The nibs write very smoothly and the ink flow is very good. I've not tried the cartridges, as I chose to use a wood brown ink to match the pen.
I make silver jewellery, so I was looking for a pen to match my craft. I chose the Grifos ones because of the looks, the price and the combination with the lovely wood. It has become my favorite pen over the past few months. =)
gnomes_journalThank you! Glad you love our craftman work and writing quality. I must say that read this from work colleague craftman too make this endorsement more appreciate again! Best regards from Aosta Velly, Italy
Argh this pen looks gorgeous! Blah must resist but for a real silver pen at this price point with hand stamping by the actual maker make these individually unique. Especially with the wood grains being different on each pen.
Massdrop has failed to resolve my issue with this pen, and Andrewpn has a similar issue. CS is not handling my claim, but "specialized team". I've heard nothing from them. Why a "specialized team" for a defect clearly visible upon inspection? After initial excitement and satisfaction with Massdrop, I fear I am finished with them. Will call Better Bus. Bureau soon.
In truth is exactly the hallmarks. I confirm. I presume that they look a bit heavy since they was punched with strenght needed to make them readable on the squared Guillochè engraving of the silver. The issue is that the law on hallmarks require that they "must be readable" but to get this on some silver engraving like this one we need to add strenght on the punch. Sorry if this is a problem for you but again it was made as "warranty" . If you think this is a problem we could arrange for a return and a change. Best regards!
You're upset because the artisan actually stamped your pen with his mark and also labelled it as being authentic silver? I think the artisan stamps makes the pen more valuable to me. Though what would be cool is if Stubnib would actually put the names next to the marks so we know which maker actually made each pen with the history of each maker. :)
I noticed 2 dents too similar to what randywit described. Is it normal ? I also have problem with the nib drying out after a few hours not using the pen.
