SchwibblesI think the problem this product has is that the THX AAA 789 exists. It's $350. If one were to get the SMSL SU-8 for $250, someone would have an excellent fully balanced system for less than this item.

pslayer1Exactly what I was thinking. That said the THX 789 can't be the end game for high end headphone amps. What does this have, power-wise that the THX doesn't? Edit- just did a spec comparison and the THX outputs pretty much double the power for both balanced and single ended. Would love to see amirm's review regardless :D

slennyThe THX can be endgame for 75% of the folks out there - it's that good. The other 25% will be in a constant search for sonic bliss... and there's nothing wrong with that. I've paired my THX amp with a great balanced DAC and different headphones and I'm perfectly content (at the moment). THX has proven that it can hang in the personal audio world... I'm sure they will keep introducing new products. I'd be interested in a balanced DAC from them.

pslayer1In no way the SU-8 is close to the A20h dac. Dont forget the A20h is a very good dac with free amp, this was the training to built H20 amp.

SchwibblesMy only concern with the driver is when I am gaming, sommes time you get driver disconection but maybe a w7 problème

totoloopeOn its own it isn't but when combined with the THX product, especially balanced, I'm sure the circuit competes or even beats the A20h

pslayer1THX AAA 789 isn't balanced. . . I agree completely with the overall point you are making here, but technically it's using a differential amp out, not balanced amps.

pslayer1The performance the 789 shows justifies the decision, but it's definitely a factor in the price point of the Gustard vs. 789 + DAC. . .
