OMG--twice the price of the new Drop/Invicta 1960 collaboration watch? Hamilton should ditch that expensive ETA movement and switch to the much less expensive Seiko mecha-quartz movement, and then cut the Jazzmaster's price in half, shouldn't they? Huh? That would be crazy, wouldn't it? Except that was exactly the suggestion (IN-REVERSE) some members we proposing for the Invicta watch: dump the mecha-quartz, add a Valjoux movement, and then more than double the price of the watch! Not sure what a watch might look like that would satisfy every member's idea of what a watch should look like, (and be made of), --but I doubt it would be as cute as these two guys!

RayFOh Ray.... Ray Ray Ray... I actually like this watch EXCEPT the color. Rose Gold... I just cant do it. Coincidentally, the reason I dislike most Invicta actually. It just looks cheap to me... I do like your mecha idea though. Never owned one but if they put one in a Hami like this and .5'ed the price... Id be all over that.

russsertThat meca quartz movement is in the "Spinnaker Hull Chronograph", at under $200 with discount codes, not bad looking with sandwich dial and all. If I really was interested in this movement which seems to be infiltrating many brands at present that's where I would start, but only if you like the look of it,the water resistance is helped on this chrono with screw down pushers, also screw down crown. Hope this helps.

JAoneIndeed--lotta companies using some form of mecha-quartz movements these days, --even some companies I've never heard of!

JAoneI actually like Spinnaker. Never owned one but I have seen some up close and theyre nice looking at least. Thanks for the info fella. I have a couple Hamis I really love the Khaki Field and the H71566553. Both my favorite pieces but neither with screw down crowns or pushers... so this would be nice... if not... for... the... you get it

By the way, EVERY watch in that shot is some flavor of quartz or mecha-quartz. Know how you can tell? They're ALL showing the correct time ;- )

RayFIs that seiko really a mechaquartz? Had my eye on it. It's solar too, isn't it? Didn't know they could do both.

DaveL21 No, that Seiko uses a V175, solar charging, straight quartz movement. The Geckota C-01 uses a SII VK64 (Seiko) meca-quartz movement. Aside from looking at the back of the watch for markings, one way to distinguish between the two is operate the chronograph function and then reset the hands. A meca-quartz second hand will snap-back instantaneously, but a straight quartz second hand slowly swings back to zero (the 12:00 o'clock position). I kind of think the latter is cooler to see happening on the dial, but depending on the number of seconds/minutes that have elapsed, it can take a while--generally not an issue.

RayFDear Ray, if all three are showing the correct time, should I change my computer as it seems a bit a head of time: 18h56?

RayFThe "SII VK64 (Seiko) meca quartz" is a stress-relieving movement... No second hand moving before activating the stopwatch, which enabled running smoothly at five notches per second (18000bph) It is also used in my "Today's Clock" a 40mm Hoffman Racing 40 Panda Edition (No.21 0f 150) And after a year + use I have had no problems. But be aware! that unlike most other chronograph movements, self-calibration of the second hand is unfortunately not possible :( So be careful about bumps !!!

Hendrix-DKOh man... coveting Actually... just looked at Hoffman as I had not heard of the brand before. They have a nice racer model with a Seagull auto movement for the same price or more than a Hami with an ETA!? Am I missing something?

RayFI have been following these guys since they started on Kickstarter... have you heard of them? The pandas they make use a VK64 mecha-quartz movement... know anything about them? https://vapaus.co/pages/vorcut-38mm-mens-chronograph-watch

russsertI'm on their mailing list too, but don't really know anything about them. The VK64 is a decent movement (does what its supposed to do) so I don't think that would be an area of concern. Style-wise they seem a little too clean, particularly the regular and reverse Pandas in black and white. The colored Panda dials (blue, brown, salmon) are down right blasphemous ;- ) That said, I know a lot of folks would be thrilled with the 38mm case size, and at $340USD, there are certainly worse deals to be had!

RayFThat is kind of my feeling as well... though for some really strange reason... I dont hate the salmon?!?! maybe with a short sleeved shirt over a long sleeved shirt with the collar popped? I got that email today and was super tempted to do the reverse panda... but know so little about how the brand is doing and the movement as well. Thanks for the input!

RayFFor sure... it’s a great look at the specs and I need to look at the article they cite with the in depth look at meca quartz... but worn and wound is sometimes hard to tell who’s payroll they are on...... if you get me. I’ll have to do some more digging into reviews; like and dislikes of the watch with actual experience. Maybe that just means I don’t like it enough to be secure buying it without a big push.

RayFThat seiko recraft is on chrono 4 at $199 new from a retailer!!! I quite like it, good looking retro watch: it does say solar, so is it a solar meca quartz?? Maybe runs like a kinetic; I'm not sure of the mechanics .

JAone Solar powered charging of the battery that powers the straight-quartz movement--that's the way I would explain it. It's a decent watch for sure, but don't fall for Seiko's product photography--the dial is only that blue under optimum lighting conditions. Check my shots for more truthful images ;- )

RayFThanks checked them out and you'er right the dial doesn't look so bright . Still don't mind the look but maybe more contrast around the dials would be better. But you can only buy what's available.
