Got the black walnut. I like the size and feel of the rest, but I have to say the finish is not what I expected at all. It's not protected or varnished or glossy or anything like that, which is fine, as long as you don't get water on it. I'm going to take my wood staining and finishing stuff and apply a finish to this baby- will post before / after pictures.

Should I coat it with danish oil or something similar? Do you just apply by rubbing an old rag with the stuff on it? Do I have to sand anything back? Sorry for the million questions, never done something like this before.
