Buttons do nothing. Works as an amp though which is cool.

I got this product since it seemed plausible to improve some of the signal strength issues I was having in my Dance Studio (with University Sanctioned Bogen Acoustic Equalizer CTS 1035, things sounded like the adults from Peanuts) phone/laptop aux to RCA pathway. It is a fascinating audio closet Frankenstein's Monster patchwork of cables, turntables, and speakers from the 1970-2000s. There is a noticeable improvement in sound clarity and oomph, but the main issue is the unit's casing is already unglueing, and the buttons do not always respond. However, controlling the volume and audio file from the source is still practical.

Sorry to say the DB12 is not working for me and looks like I'll be returning it soon.
  1. Every time I tap the volume-up it turns down the sound volume
  2. Tapping twice only replays the current song and does not play the next song
  3. Tapping the volume up increases sound more than needed and lacks finesse
  4. Tapping 3 times to play the previous song does not work
  5. Control buttons lack design maturity, and have a feel of a lower tier

I tested it thoroughly. The big buttons control my iPhone but you can also use it to connect to your Walkman/Diskman, inflight entertainment etc. as it has analog inputs...it adds a constant 12 dB to the incoming audio signal. With the dB12, you can use your big cans on an airplane, for example. In terms of sound, it makes it "bigger" (more headroom) but also fluffier (less dense), which is typical for THX. Will this work with the ADV. nsmo 3D triple-driver gaming iem's mic? It may be a stupid question, since I don't know if iems need that much power in the first place, but I wanted to know if the connected mic still works if they are plugged into this.
Zeal-Petersonpretty sure it would need to be a 3 pole connector to have mic passthrough but I'm not an expert on 3.5 combo connectors

I generally find video reviews helpful, but while the first one was just barely tolerable, when I clicked on the second one and heard: "What's up...this is your boy..." I knew I'd seen enough!

Hi, can someone please confirm if the cables are braided or not? I am seeing different types in the photos. Has the item also been updated? There are people complaining about the buttons being difficult to press.

LesterSinghHello, yes the cables are braided and some of the comments on the button's being a little sticky were only in early production runs on a handful of units. With any new product release there are a few tweaks to work out in manufacturing which have been done thus the buttons all work very well.

With this device depending solely on a 3.5mm input, it seems kind of pointless. If your 3.5mm output sounds like crap, a AAA won't make it sound any better, just no worse. I guess I'll just stick to the output of my LG G7.

liteon1You are right in that if you have a bad source this will deliver bad sound. If you have a good source (like your LG) the THX amp won’t mess up the sound through another amp stage, you will get more power, and the ability to boost the bass. I have this and an LG v30 and this device really is not bad out of the LG, or my iPad. But, given the future - or lack thereof - of 3.5mm output jacks, this is a purchase with likely a short useful lifespan...
