I wonder how well it will work when combined with a dac like a cobalt. Ill be interested in getting feedback on that. I have a cobalt and it might be worth using both, but only of they work well together.
I'm not sure why you would have a need for this if you have a cobalt, similar power specs into 32 ohms. Are you interested just because it has THX modules? FYI the mobile modules are not the same level of performance as the 788 or 888 modules you find in desktop amps. Will it work, most certainly, is there any reason... not that I can see.
FWIW - I've had the good fortune of using the DB12 AAAMP with some HELM DAC prototypes and if you listen to your headphones at "decent" volumes (I don't want to encourage hearing loss but some of us are well on the way to that destination regardless) the DB12 AAAMP has plenty of power and the whole THX AAA zero-distortion technology is something to behold. I don't believe that the experience would be much different with a competitor's DAC. If you like it mobile, loud, and crystal clear, the DB12 AAAMP delivers the goods.

Awful looking which it’d be more metal like instead of plastic looking.
More metal or "more cowbell?" (Sorry, couldn't resist.) I've attached a couple of shots here so the finish is a little more visible.

Thanks Drew yep cowbell would have been more appropriate, at least it talks the talk walks the walk and on top of it, calls you back to the barn when done listening, can’t wait to stick it between my ear and my neck 👍🎶🤑 Did I mention how visible the large audio control signs are, hard to miss even without glasses, thank you for saving our eyes but touch sensitive instead of ink sensitive would have saved our music browsing from insanity. Other than that might be worth the price as long as you hide it from other cows.

Is there something like this that has will also pass-through a 4-pole microphone signal?
Are you referring to microphone pass through from an inline mic on a pair of headphones or a gaming headset mic? If so - the DB12 AAAMP does have a 4-pole connector for mic pass through, the images here on DROP are from an older prototype. See attached.

If I'm not mistaken the only way this works is if input is from the 3.5mm jack, right? If I plug in a USB Type C to C cable, it'll just juice up the battery? Also, can someone point out why I should skip this (<48 hours left!) and grab the BOLT?
Correct on the 3.5mm analog audio jack connection, your device will need one (or an adapter) to connect to the DB12 AAAMP. The USB-C connection is only for charging the DB12's battery. The BOLT is a DAC with MQA rendering. While it usually improves upon the output audio level of your smartphone or computer (it does a better job of impedance matching and has a hotter output than most stock audio packages on smartphones and computers) the BOLT isn't able to boost levels like the DB12. If you want a great amp, the DB12 is a great solution. If you're looking for DAC features the BOLT makes a lot of sense.

Thanks Drew, but it was a little late. Perhaps the next time the DB12 goes up, because I do have a DAC but turns out that on-the-go, I can't really drive the HE400s Planar-magnetic to desirable levels off my phone.

is this a TRRS or TRS ?
The BOLT is TRRS for mic pass-thru.

How about the Bolt? I think I would rather try that.
As much as it might be cruel of me to add to your curiosity and potential anticipation, listening to MQA content on TIDAL, hi-rez audio, or even plain old Spotify & Apple Music IS amazing. The BOLT is coming soon. Stay tuned!

How is this available "only on Drop" when it can be ordered directly off of Helm's website? While it may be more expensive there it's also shipping in September versus Drop's estimated ship date (that when translated into reality means spring 2023).
Hi Thesesuck, (nice username BTW.) We launched on Drop first with all Drop orders from this current sale being shipped to Drop warehouse within 4 days of this offer ending. We estimate delivery will definitely be ahead of the October date listed. Additionally, on the HELM site we are not offering this $50 off offer - that's an exclusive discount for the Drop customers as a part of the launch of the DB12. Hopefully by Spring 2023 we'll all be living our "normal" lives again. You'll get the DB12 AAAMP WAY AHEAD of that schedule.

Does it work as amp only, or as DAC as well?
