Folks be careful with this one. If MD gets these from the wrong source with the .01 firmware you won't be able to update the firmware. You have to get a replacement unit. Plus these are $89 with free shipping everywhere else so not a great deal.

harpo1Is it not the point of MD to get it directly from the MANUFACTURER for bulk orders?

harpo1True. But if it does ship correctly, then its pretty good. I reviewed it here:

asigalHi, Aaron. Please clarify for me how Apt-X Bluetooth functions on this device! I need a wireless Apt-X FEED --> FROM a Moto X P.E. smartphone and any of several Bluetooth tablets --> TO a portable outboard DAC/Headphone-amp device. The objective: Avoiding further damage to the poorly designed, all purpose SINGLE mini USB connection point on smartphones and tablets. Will this device accomplish that for me? ...Or is the 4.0 Bluetooth only for BROADCAST -- with a WIRED connection to phone or tablet -- to a separate Bluetooth loudspeaker or headset which is Apt-X equipped??
I'm finding the incomplete feature descriptions on gizmos like this very, very frustrating! Thanks for your help, Aaron or Massdrop community.

C_ElegansHi,
I do not think that this devices can act as wireless intermediary. However, it can act as a DAC, then output to a Bluetooth device.
PC/Android Device -> OTG Cable -> AP60 -> Bluetooth APTX -> Bluetooth Device
For more information on USB DACs, see here:

asigalThanks so much for the assist. I was concerned that this device might only function the way you have described. I have no particular liking for the idea of taking on Bluetooth limitations on the quality of my audio for mere convenience; but maximizing non-use of the single digital port on tablets/"phablets" is a must for me, after having 4 such ports go wonky here in about fifteen months time... leaving a sorry collection of not-cheap, incapacitated computer devices in the wake.
This sort of low quality, commercially standard, "all purpose" connection has no legitimate place on price-y phones and tablets. To say that this ubiquitous interface is EFFECTIVELY "standardized" on either the female side (device) or the male side (cable) is truly a very poor joke. Tolerances are simply all over the place in practice. I can only conclude that the disinterest Android manufacturers have exhibited for proper engineering on this essential lifeline must be a rather cynical "planned obsolescence" ploy as well as a cost cutting stratagem. Disgraceful, really.
