One item to be wary of is comfort. Surely your mileage may vary, but I can only wear the HE-500 for a couple hours tops without becoming too uncomfortable (excessive pressure at the top and sides of my head). Also, I feel the HE-400 is very close in performance to the HE-500 with the HE-400 having clearer, more impactful bass.
The HE-500 indeed is a great can however and a worthwhile investment at this price point.

kkoerner89That's a fair criticism. One thing I do note is that the HE-500 is quite heavy (although this is generally common for orthodynamics). This can lead to some people finding it uncomfortable. I don't personally have any comfort problems with it, but I have a much higher tolerance level than many people probably have. It also does have a pretty high level of clamping pressure against your head, so that may also affect comfort.
