I just finished my review and comparison of Hifime Sabre 9018 DAC to Fiio E10k. As a headphone+DAC, the Fiio E10k does better with much lower impedance and higher output. As a DAC, they two are close with a nod to Hifime. But really, there are better choices if you can spend a bit more. Awaiting confirmation! We are still in contact with the vendor and just awaiting updated shipment estimates from them. We have a call scheduled first thing tomorrow morning and should get a bit more visibility in regards to when we can expect these in our warehouse.

Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the HiFime Sabre 9018 DAC/Amp and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 9/28.

It is about the DAC chip and the implementation, components, build quality, workmanship, and so forth and so on, plus your source, file type, headphones speakers etc, but most of all you and your hearing and likes and dislikes. All play an important role.

Though I'm a total newbie to hi end audio I've always enjoyed IEMs to listen to jazz and classical music with some classic R&B and Rock as leavening.
The size and portability of the Hifime seriously appeal to me. Would this item be a good intro to the Dac/Amp category? If not, any other suggestions?
My current specs: iPad mini 2nd generation iPhone 5s Various IEMs + headphones thanks to Massdrop --Brainwave S5 --Macaw T1000's w/ Bluetooth --Sennheiser CX1's (should these count?) --AKG M220's -- DHL transport (possible surprise for my great, music looking kid or maybe just for me🙃) --Thinksound -- in current drop

I wanted to try a sabre based dac, it was this or the dragonfly 1.5 for my laptop and iphone and possibly galaxy note with an adapter. The optical connection sort of sealed it for me. May also use it with my denon reciever-amp/dsd/sacd player May also use as a dac with a schitt magni. Now waiting patiently to put this through it's paces.

Are you sure dragonfly 1.5 uses the older sabre dac I believe and the red the newer (feel free to correct me :)) both 24bit/96. But no matter I needed the option of digital out/line level out. I could not find any comparison between the two. Just the older hifime 9023 sabre dac I believe. Hifi me has a few reviews on their websight-Amazon only has one, but a ton of reviews on the older hifime sabre dac and dragonfly 1.5 black and red dacs. Judging from those reviews the dragonfly appears to have a better and more convenient physical design, but older cheaper sabre chip and no digital/line out combined jack. and cost about $34% more.
Either one looks like a great buy.

If I were to get the standard USB plug would I be able to use a usb OTG adapter to plug in my phone (LG G3) also?

OferKitkat rom doesn't support usb audio officially but maybe work. Search if any king of usb DAC works on G2 Kitkat Rom, if it does it will also work with this.
