Done in traditional Japanese style, this Higonokami friction folder features a design that dates back to the late 19th century. Made with a thick blue paper steel blade, it has no lock Read More
The fit and finish on this knife is not above average. You can order a Sakai hig of equal or better quality on Needsupply.com. It shipped quite dull. But from my experience with Japanese makers, knives are often dull when shipped wholesale to avoid unnecessary liability. I sharpened this on Norton 1000, 4000 & 8000 polishing stones and now I can shave with it. How long the edge lasts will represent how well the Aogami steel was heat treated.
I think I overspent on this blade by about $20 but for all those that have already purchased the knife, take some time to develop the edge and then hone on diamond sprayed horse leather. It will bring out the edge and make it an excellent horticulture shear or mushroom knife or any other delicate use you might have.
I put peanut butter on my toast with sharper knives than this. The action on my knife is super gritty. HIGHLY disappointing. Massdrop I think its time that you started really making sure that you are selling quality items and not junk like this.
I bought 2 of these. Pretty underwhelmed by the quality. One of the blades would cut copier paper reasonably well but the other was very poorly sharpened and would not cleanly cut at all. This steel almost certainly is not Super Blue (nor was it represented as Super Blue)
125 sold, why come in and clear up confusion that might make others see this isn't that spectacular of a deal?
Easier to keep luring people in with pics of higher end models and offering $5 to the few who question it when their order arrives 🙄
Sure, who knows if the person in the review is accurate, and both the amazon and Massdrop descriptions are largely vague. But the amazon one is at least reviewed so I kinda know what I am getting into. This drop seems to be a swing in the dark for the most part.
I agree with other people's comments about this drop... not enough details! Who makes them? What country are they made in? What type of Blue Steel? Hardened to what Rockwell rating?
rbc3Only one maker has the legal right o make a "Higo no Kami" and he's in Japan. Whether these are genuine is a whole other story. You won't get a rating, he's a personal old shool hand crafted blacksmith. Many people here would benefit from a Google search.
What's the deal with the black option?
Looks like there are 2 different versions listed in the pics.
Pic 3 and 4 I'd consider buying, all other black pics would be a pass
Blade looks like a different finish, and different pivot
