Just received my Hiro Kaioh in the mail from this drop. Looks? Gorgeous, this thing is a total stunner. Useful? The blade is warped and isn't even a perfectly straight edge. First thing I do with a new knife is A: Hold it up against a lightbulb to see how dull the factory edge is, and to see if the blade is straight, B: I do a copy paper test. This knife failed both. It's the only knife I've ever bought with a warped blade. I don't even know how that's possible - sheer apathy it seems. And it won't catch the edge of normal copy paper, and has about a 50% success rate of even puncturing the paper and cutting from there.
Looks: 10/10 Quality/Usability: 2/10
Will not be buying another Hiro, ever.

TovarishGamingI concur. Mine was garbage. Pretty to look at and well-executed but about .5" of the tip is visibly warped and the edge is so dull I would have felt safe giving it to my kid to play with. Even the point was dull! I'm not sure I could even use this thing as a letter opener. I did not get the sense from the drop description that this item was intended to be only decorative. I'm disappointed in both Hiro and Massdrop (how did you guys let this piece of shit get out to customers?).

TovarishGamingI understand your complaints - but most HIRO knives are actually very well made and while I'm not trying to make excuses maybe I can explain a little of what you are seeing. The metallurgic process of hardening and tempering metal is extremely complex and specific - The metals used in this blade have different temperatures to which they heated to optimize their performance - this is the same for cooling and tempering them. As the different bands of metal are heated and cooled at different (optimal) rates it is possible that you will see some warping occur. You can simply fix this by applying light pressure to the convex side of the curve until it bends into place.
As far as sharpening - some (more historically) knives come from the factory withOUT the final edge so the edge can be set to the end users specified desires... I wouldn't discount HIRO knives entirely on this experience - your knife is quite unique and you are seeing something that is way less common, on a common knife :) I hope you get things straightened out so you can end up using it.

ISKI certainly appreciate the reply and understand the reasoning, but the confirmation from GoodGrief that I wasn't the only person to experience this pretty much seals the deal for me. The way I see it, this was a fairly expensive product (compared to a budget knife), and should have achieved a level of quality equal to, or greater than my $20 knives, out of the box. The HIRO box contained a slip which stated that all knives were quality controlled before shipment, meaning, if that were true, they should be bending the blades themselves. Additionally, I agree that most knives come with a level of dullness, but not *so* dull that it can't cut a piece of paper.
If I was really excited about the brand, I could see myself making a concession and trying again, but when every penny counts, and there's literally millions of AMAZING knives to choose from, I'm not willing to try my luck. I've purchased a dozen knives for under $30 which were more capable and higher quality out of the box. There's just no excuse. If I'm buying a crafted product, and it wasn't crafted with care, I can't bring myself to risk another $50 or $100 or whatever it ends up being.
Anyway, ISK, I thank you for taking the time to make a case, and I respect the points you made 100%, but with so many excellent options on the market, I'd have to see the next HIRO in person before agreeing to give money up. Thanks again! (also, love Massdrop, bought many knives, happy with all the others!)

GoodGriefI should apologize here for the tone of my earlier comment. It was less than ideally civil. I was clearly in a worse-than-usual mood when I wrote it.
Please note, however, that I am not retracting the content. I am very disappointed with the condition of the blade. I have purchased knives that were not razor sharp out of the box, but never one that appears to have been barely ground at all. I like the design, and was looking forward to a slim blade (for fishing) with a comfortable grip, but the quality, as received, does not even begin to approach that of my Grohmann Bird & Trout (which was comparable in price). I'm off Hiro, and will probably refrain from further massdrop knife purchases. (I am in the Boker urban trapper Drop, and I can only hope for better results.)

GoodGriefIf it's any consolation, I have purchased other knives from here on Massdrop, and they were fantastic. I must argue that this is an issue with the supplier, and not Massdrop. Any business like this one is bound to have one or two bad eggs as they work with new suppliers. Coincidentally, I own a Boker Urban Trapper, and it's excellent for the price. Sharp enough out of the box to get through some wood, and quite light! Perfect gentleman's folder. I paid $60 for mine and I feel it was worth that price tag (not much more though, that's the sweet spot). Additionally, two days after my issue with the Hiro, my MCusta Rikyu from Massdrop arrived, and it's the nicest knife in my collection now.
I would ask that instead of writing off Massdrop, take a few minutes each time and research customer reviews on Amazon or Bladeforums or /r/Knifeclub, and then make sure there aren't comparable/better deals on Amazon, BladHQ, and once you're satisfied, buy the drop!
