Initial review gets 3 stars, will try to remember to update this after some use and a few sharpenings, but for now, first impressions : The canvas roll is nice enough, nothing special, i may consider waxing it to help keep moisture away. Handles are loose on the pen knife, both Kiridashi, and the file Edges felt sharp at first, but on closer inspection it looks like they were all finished on a buffing wheel, so I don't expect that edge to last at all. Meaning every one of them will take some work to get a flat bevel to teach the edge again (it's my understanding carving tools should be flat grind, to ride the bevel, similar to wood turning tools.... These are rather convex) Round Small has an uneven edge, left to right, with a chunk missing in the middle. Round Large has one very tapered corner and one pretty square one. Flat blade is not square at the end. Triangle gouge is uneven left to right, and the bevel is so rounded on this one in pretty sure it's gonna wedge and crack what it should be slicing. Kiridashis look alright aside from the previously mentioned loose handles and buffing wheel convex edge. Saw looks good. File looks fine aside from the loose handle. I know many Japanese tools are only finished with a rudimentary edge, and end users are expected to do the real finishing work on them....but at the retail price on these I expected they might come ready to use, and certainly not with loose handles. I would've preferred they came dull rather than having the fake sharp buffing wheel treatment. And if the handles weren't going to be perfect, I would've preferred not having pressed rivets the will need to be drilled out to replace

KavikYeah, you have so right. The finishing of the tools and knives from Japan is usually the buyer who has to do, so the price should be lower for sure. It's fun to do and make a nice finish on this tools, ut not everyone are into that. So it should be pointed out I think. If sold with a great finish, it would be worth little more, but as is, much less I think. But all tools needed are in this set for starters.
