Reminder: This company is going to be banned in the US due to their excessive spying on consumers. Australia doesn't allow them. Their systems are unsecure and even have programming to flag personal bank numbers and passwords. AT&T killed all ties with the company due to the data they saw being passed off to the Chinese. AnzialThat's not how it works. These are built to spy. You can't flash a device with custom android OS and hope the embedded hardware wont report back anymore.

smallbitMike Conway doesn't know his ass from a hole in wall when it comes to technology. His bill will be thrown out with the garbage where it belongs. It's xenophobic Trump bullshit. The U.S. government routinely tests and monitors the technology it deploys and if these phones were a problem someone credible (not an old Texas turd collector) would have said so by now.

CubemanI believe he is just following Australia's lead. While I am not endorsing him, I agree that these products need to be combed through with what we have already seen from the company and if not then outright banned. That isn't xenophobia, that is literally protecting a massive amount of consumers from being facebook like products for foreign intelligence agencies. OnePlus is another one to lookout for imo.

smallbitIf you are working in an industry that is of interest to national security, sure, don't buy this phone. If not, there is no reason for China to care about you. I mean, what can they do to you? Arrest you? I'd be more worried about a US based company because they are GUARANTEED to spy on you and pass that info to authorities that can do something to you.

AM54"What is the worst that could happen?" Is a horrible mentality. You must be Russian. A foreign country tracking purchases, bank balances, geolocation for tagged assets, webcam access and microphone access even when the phone appears to be off begs the question "Why would foreign government be so interested?" right? The ties that bind are not always physical, we in our civilized society have given free reign to credit companies to give our lives a quantifiable value, a literal number. That makes for a nice attack point if you were just trying to make things harder for an entire civilization gradually over a long period of time. If you were to ask what the worst that could happen is, over time data could be used as a control method on our consumerist/capitalist society. Easily through credit but even more thoroughly through killing off target country companies by taking a loss copying their products then introducing lower quality/cost to produce products to replace while gradually getting worse and cheaper over time. This would kill exports and eventually the underlying currency internationally. You could easily attack multiple aspects of the target society not just in foods and entertainment but also through the privatization of the fundamental democracy. Making it legal to buy candidates through superPAC's and even privatizing the digitization of the voting system through Haliburton/Diebold. Healthcare and government would be the main targets of course because through that influence there is control of education systems and the youth. The push for privatization of government services would essentially be seen as new strategic targets. Education system privatization would be the deathknell. Basically you would have the price going up and quality of everything going down so gradually that people would not realize. Sun Tzu doesn't even scratch the surface of what is possible once you see the vulnerabilities in foreign trade when dealing with one society that is communist and another that is a capitalist hyperconsumer that barely exports.
There is even a website to watch the battle for gold which was supposed to be what our dollar is tethered to: http://didthesystemcollapse.com/
So the worst that could happen is you literally turn into a sheep (because they know what you like to watch) eating crap (because we don't grow our own food and as the dollar plummets internationally cost of goods go up) with the most expensive healthcare in the world (currently ranked 37th, which is indeed behind Israel who we still send tons of aid money to.)
So maybe you are really asking, "How much worse can it get?". I don't know but from the top down, it appears we are now getting walls on our sheep pen. But you got to look on the bright side, weed's gonna be legal soon. :P

AM54No tinfoil thank you but maybe a diabetes shot in 10 years. Also I have a blanket that keeps me warm at night called crypto. So I am kosher, no worries. :)
Edit: I feel I should explain a brighter side with what we can do to fix things. With blockchain a voting platform will be born secured through decentralization. This will re-enable the dream of democracy so long as we allow it. Gerrymandering will have to be killed off along with superPACs. This will put the power of the people back in government.

Also still NBN banned clearly and still being reported on as an issue: https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/how-a-huawei-5g-ban-is-about-more-than-espionage-20180614-p4zlhf.html

Have you even read those articulates you cited (any of them) because I have & again, zero facts with this phone with regard 'spying' & again NBN is to do with infrastructure.
Ignorance is indeed bliss & please leave me to mine over your enlightenment.

But mainly, screw you for sticking up for oppressive data collection corporations. I will probably update this thread a couple more times with more information as more and more info comes to light for the lols. Better unsub Pinocchio.

smallbitI think you'll find that the guy, the simpleton, whom opens a thread of some 28 weeks is generally the troll. This will be my last comment to you because I believe you to be either a child or of childlike mentality. You had little comprehension of the subject matter at hand from the start and quoted articulates that you either didn't even read or understand - all of which is documented above. Watch out for those chem-trails and make sure you don't fall of the edge of this planet of ours.
