I had a previous version that literally traveled the world with me for about 3 years before it died (cap gave up the ghost, not the silicone body. Just bought another one; the newer cap designs appear much sturdier.
I own of of these, after one year, many cleaning with everything I found from detergent to citric acid, brushing thoroughly the inside... Its awful taste has never left, and can be felt after just one minute. That means that some chemical passes from the plastic to the water even now. The souple plastic has somehow shrunk, probably from loss of chemical... . This bottle is for me a complete failure.
I've got an older version of these that I love and the cap is tethered to the body of the container. Taking that feature away seems like a mistake. Kind of a bummer.
I have used mine quite a lot, just around town really. I gave some away to a guy who loves his too.
They were a bit stinky and did have a plastic taste at first. I left them open, rinsed a lot, finally did the fill with water and lemon just and freeze trick. Why does that work? Science is weird.
Also got two in last drop. Unlike the bottles shown on the vendor's website, the Massdrop bottles do not have a handle on the bottom to assist opening when compacted. Nearly impossible to open once compressed. Unless these are updated, stay away.
@kkalb I was able to find a video that shows 3 ways to open the stash bottle. While this video is a couple years old, I think it's still applicable and hope it helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEAVUpPOJA8
