I will say the only good Daps are by Fiio so far. They come in a great price. They also continue to update the OS and other software of their daps. I have seen and read many reviews of other daps and the rest all seem to be over priced and bad software from the start and the companies seem to not continue their software support after they put their product to market. So thats why i just tell people to get a Fiio if they want a great dap with many features that will continue to get software support. Fiio x3 and x5 great choices.

Acidtrip69I have both. DX90 sounds better, and it doesn't feel like a brick like the x5.
iBasso also updates their product every few months. They recently had an update. And there are more choices when it comes to software compared to fiio.

Acidtrip69I agree and it's very disappointing. I owned a Cowon J3 and tho the looks were perfectly spot on I hated the fact that they hardly updated their software. I owned my J3 for 3-4 years before I decided to sell it away and they only updated the software twice! and they were only incremental updates :(

boooooooooDoes the DX90 support bluetooth 4.0?

DanielSteinNo. None of the Fiio or iBasso DAPs support it. If you want bluetooth you're looking to spend $1k+ on AK MKII players or the discontinued DX100

booooooooodamn, that's shame. It's silly that an iPod touch supports BT but if you want a MP3 Player that supports BT you having to spent a fortune.. :/

DanielSteinThis is an audiophile player to play uncompressed FLAC and ALAC files or high quality MP3s, so transmitting the sound via Bluetooth doesn't make any sense , since the quality would be seriously degraded... Also using BT means you are using the amp in the headphone, no point having a high grade one in your DAP then. If you want Bluetooth, this dap is not for you.

DanielSteinI agree with Daniel.. it's an added perk not the main feature. We're in 2015 now.. sometimes the convenience of wireless should be included when your dropping this kind of dough on an electronic device that is made for music playback. If it had Bluetooth capability.. I'd have jumped on this deal in a heartbeat. And I hate my FiiO X3 currently.

RochRx7I'm not sure why you'd want bluetooth on something like this; you would then be bypassing ~all of what makes this better than a 50usd sansa Clip. Why not just use your phone at that point and save the 400usd?

RochRx7You do realize using bluetooth severely reduces the quality of sound, right? There's no point in buying a $400 high fidelity music player that will play 24-bit 192khz studio quality sound if you're going to compress it for your crappy bluetooth earbuds.

w00mBecause my phone is for my phone, playing music on it drains the battery too fast (Sony Xperia) and the output sucks.. Have to use nearly full volume to get decent level decibels...
If I buy a piece of device that is dedicated to playing music. At a PREMIUM price, it should set itself apart from the competition by offering features in addition to the sound and power it can handle... Bluetooth is a luxury, and this is luxury pricing. I'd love to be able to pair my bluetooth cans (UE9000, Velodyne vFree, Jaybirds) and my bluetooth speakers (I have UE Boombox, UE Boom, and UE Miniboom.. yeah I'm a UE fan) and pairing with my phone leaves much to be desired because I can't fit my music collection on my phone like I do with my DAPS.
Do I need to delve further into why it works for me? Hope that helps.

NiophantI'm fully aware of what bluetooth does to sound quality. Severe in comparison to FLAC audio yes.. but to 220-320kbs .. it's not as noticeable as you would think.
I don't just use bluetooth headphones occasionally.. I would pair these up with my bluetooth speakers from UE.. I think that would make the value worth it because I hate pairing with my phone (not enough memory, cant play flac, and usually have to use Pandora/Spotify)

RochRx7If I buy a car that is dedicated to driving. At a PREMIUM price, it should set itself apart from the competition by offering features in addition to the power and handling... Seating is a luxury, and this is luxury pricing. I'd love to be able to place my kids (Aaron, Andy, and Alexis) and my wives (I have 3.. yeah I'm a mormon) and transporting with my minivan leaves much to be desired because I can't win a race my minivan like I do with my Porsche.

w00mExactly. Are you really a mormon? and 3 wives? I envy you friend. What man in their right mind would buy a minivan in the first place. That's like picking a iPod shuffle over this. Yeah it works, but some people desire or have more.. some have the means to fund it. If you don't, a change in profession is in order.

RochRx7Can you not expand the storage on your phone? Seems like such a waste to have 2 high quality audio processors separating your flac files into left and right only to recompress everything for bluetooth. Personally, I haven't had an MP3 file in my collection for years.

NiophantIf the source unit (BT Transmitter) and BT receiving unit incorporate the CSR Apt-X Bluetooth protocol, there is much less difference than you think. Apt-X is "just shy" of being full redbook CD quality. I am a musician of over 35 years and record/playback on studio-level gear. I use my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 & Note 4 for Hi-Res playback of 24bit/192kHz WAV & FLAC files via the USB Audio Player Pro app (UAPP) via BT which is received by an Arcam rBlik BT receiver. It is linked directly to a pair of Neumann KH 120 Studio Monitors and Beyerdynamic Tesla T1 headphones (fed by an OPPO HA-1 and Audio-gd NFB-28 headphone amps/DACs.
I would be inclined to put money on if you could distinguish the difference in a Double-Blind A/B/X test between a hard-wired connection and the Apt-X BT wireless connection. You *might* be able to distinguish a slight difference on some particular instruments and songs, but for 95% of commercial recordings, it's a non-issue IMHO. I would have loved if my DX90 had Apt-X Bluetooth as well!
By the way, the DX90 can drive the 600-ohm impedance Beyerdynamic T1 headphones directly with excellent results. You will need the volume up in the 225-245 region, and your battery will drain a bit faster than with IEMs, but you get beautiful sound.
TBH, I would like to see this drop at $300 flat or maybe $309, considering the other deals that have already been mentioned. HTH. - BB

bbfotoThanks for the knowledge drop! Also, damn you for telling me my DX90 can power the 600-ohm Beyerdynamic T1's!! Haha, just another gadget to add to the list... I had no idea there were higher quality BT protocols. I'll have to look into it more some time.
