Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. I wouldn't bother with a replacement in this case because it will likely have the same problems and you'll pay customs again. I'm not sure about a partial refund or materials to fix the problem though. You could ask i guess, worst case scenario they just say no.
I'll see what they say when they reply. If you never ask you'll never get so fingers crossed for a partial refund :-). I hope you find another keyboard. :-)
If you can find a sheet of neoprene rubber (probably around less than a mm thick) trim it to size, and attach it with a couple strips of double sided tape, I think that would work better than electrical tape or paper like some people are putting in theirs. I've insulated custom boards with it before without any issues, and if you ever need to pull it out for any reason you won't end up with a ton of goo on the frame like you will with electrical tape.
Thanks for the tip! I'll maybe buy some rubber once I see what they say to a partial refund. I'll let you know what they say, maybe it'll help you too! :-)
Going to contact iKBC support though and see what they say. But from a complete novice with mechs, it was super simple to fix. :-). Hope your's is fine! :-)
