Quick question to all, since information is pretty slim on this: when you load a blade, is it supported along the entire length? I mean, my top cap holds the blade against the bottom cap at the left and right sides, but the blade is left kind of floating in the middle. I've never seen this issue reported anywhere else, so I assumed it was a defect with mine but when I did a quick google search I saw it with some other ikon slants as well so I'm not really sure if my complaint is valid or not. Is this just an issue with slants in general?
Bravo Massdrop
In fairness, most of the stainless razors on the market are sintered and plated. The Weber DLC razors are extremely well thought of, and nobody ever thought the outer coating was stainless steel. What's important is the structural integrity of the razor itself.
I'm interested to know how sintered parts compare to forged or milled parts in terms of shear strength and brittleness. But since this razor is, in fact, made of stainless steel, I have a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about.
I feel a bit guilty because I've been shaving with mine for about a week and so far I'm impressed with how it shaves. Mine came all packaged and looking perfect. The head does seem to have more of a matte finish, but I don't see any signs of brass. I also have an Ikon OC razor and that "all stainless" razor can be picked up by a magnet which tells me it's not truly stainless steel (but still shaves quite well), but I haven't looked as closely at the Slant.
KCEEThe fact that the razor is attracted to a magnet doesn't mean that it isn't stainless. All stainless steels *except* the austenitic (300-series) alloys are magnetic. And even 300-series steel may become magnetic when drawn or rolled.
Arrived today in Toronto! A few small cosmetic issues but nothing too serious...not perfect but not terrible either. Looking forward to giving it a try!
Yea, mine had a long scratch on top which finished in a nice gouge on one side. I was able to polish most of it out as I didn't want to wait any longer. Lucky that I didn't burn through to the copperish metal. The shave is not any better than that of my Merkur slant. I'll be exceptionally annoyed if the head on this thing isn't 100% stainless. Guess I was hoping for something magical from this razor. Back to the R41 and the Cobra for truly epic shaves.
