gcruzattoNot really true. These run on circuit boards if you have never looked a tear-down of a common LED bulb today. The internal parts such as capacitors can fail much earlier than the company's "20 year" guarantee.
Personally I'd never spend more than $10 for a single bulb.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAChances are Bluetooth technology won't even be around 20 years from now anyway... so why worry about it in such a long term?
If you bought a 'smart' bulb 20 years ago, you probably wouldn't be using it today because it would have bulky electronics, low efficiency (incandescent) and use something like an old serial port for communication.
Technology inherently has a short lifetime, and if you can't get over that, then don't buy this product.
gcruzattoThanks so much for your input. We're packaging a lighting system in a single bulb form factor, so the benefit is in the value-added experiences in addition to its long lifetime.
The estimation of up to 20 years is based upon hours of usage. All LEDs are rated according to the hours. We estimate at an average of 3-4 hours per day, you could have a 20 year lifespan.
ilumiCan you expand further ilumi?
This is great that you have shared the LED's rated lifespan.
However, and correct if I am wrong, the diodes make up a small percentage of the circuits' total components [caps, resistors, microcntrlrs, BT module]
so the remaining question is:
Are the remaining components also rated to at least that of the LED's [20YR @ 3-4HR/D] or [21,900-29,200 Life-Hours] ?
LiteItUp.netSorry, I do not have the info about what all the electrical components are rated at. However, we stand behind the product, so if you are concerned about any issues with your ilumi, just reach out to us at support@ilumi.co. For any mechanical issues, we'll ship a replacement to you :)
