The estimated ship date is still one month away. They'll inform us beforehand if it's going to ship earlier or later. Until then, you can safely assume that the estimated shipping date has not changed. This item has already dropped lots of times before so really there is nothing to worry about. :)

The promised date for the next update was 4 days ago, so I think it's justified to ask if this is normal.

Well they did say they'll give us an update by 1/19 if something comes up so I'm guessing nothing came up and everything is going smoothly. Just saying you don't really have to stress out and worry about it. They'll tell us if there will be delays or whatever.

If my recollection is correct of the last drop these seem to be more difficult and time consuming than many other drops. I don't think there's anything wrong... pretty normal to see this particular drop get a little wonkey before it arrives. No news could be good news.

In all seriousness though, I don't think we have anything to worry about just yet as the shipping date hasn't changed. If we get past the shipping date and still nothing, maybe then we should start worrying.

The last drop (which was the third one total) was delayed because the manufacturer was hit with a natural disaster (tsunami I think) which delayed shipping for a couple of weeks. The first drop was also 3-9 months late depending on how early you committed, but this was because they only a prototype and grossly underestimated the complexity of ramping up production.
The second drop, believe it or not, shipped on time, so I think there's hope.
That's not really an excuse for missing a promised update though (even if it's as simple as "yep, still on schedule").

Good question, I was expecting an email 19/01/17, as that's what they said in their email. It would be better for them to not provide this date, if they're not committed to providing one :)

They did say in the e-mail that they will only e-mail by January 19, 2017 if something comes up so I guess everything is going smoothly. I do think they should word their e-mail better to prevent any confusion on our part.

They said: "Expect another update from us on 1/19 or sooner if something comes up." The "if something comes up" part is actually about getting the update earlier than January 19. Nothing came up the previous time but they did give us a small update on the announced day anyway.

True! Right before that, they also said: " We will continue to check in with them throughout the fulfillment process and update the group again as soon as everything is en route to us!". They didn't specify a date they expect it be en route to them though. Hopefully they update us on when they expect everything to be en route to them.

They have to break the packages of switches, keycaps, and now cases (some people get the ones with hand rests) into individual kits. There's a lot of customization for this drop, which requires a lot of manual oversight, which takes a lot of time
