AwesomeTomAll the information you could want, including a link to the LED controller chip, is quite a few pages back in the discussion. I don't remember exactly where, but I would start in the 10-20 page range.
IaeenWell, I’ll say it again:
Please, Massdrop, put FAQ in the description. Noone wants to go through 51 pages of comments for information. And the old Ergodox even had hundreds …
ArnoNymMy understanding is that we need 76 x 3mm flangeless LEDs, I just got 100 from here: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/products/parts-and-accesssories/led-lights.html
I believe the first version of the configuration software will NOT have support for directly programming the LEDs, but support is planned and/or could be done with some custom programming
j0ney3Yeah, I know. Still there’s tons of useful information buried in dozens of pages of comments that could be useful for people or even could get them to join one of the drops :-/
ArnoNymAs long as you don't care if it can *change* color, you actually can make a rainbow backlight. You can either get a 2prong RGB LED that cycles between colors (not sure if they make 3mm flangeless variants, though) or you can use different color LEDs in different areas of your keyboard.
You could even use clear LEDs and then use cherry LED covers:
