Hey everyone,
Thanks for all your patience. I was waiting for some updates before making an official statement on the progress and status of the drop. The project is mostly on schedule, but a couple snags have caused some unforeseen delays.
Firstly, we were very underwhelmed by the PCB's we received for the Infinity 60% and decided to switch to a new PCB fab last minute. Not ideal, but having PCB's with poor diode connections in addition to other shortcomings was unacceptable to us and not inline with what the community expects.
The second issue was due in part to a controller chip that was held up at the factory. This was unexpected, but our manufacturing partner was able to resolve the issue and the chip has arrived at our PCB facility and we're having them prioritize the construction of the prototype so we can begin final testing before launch. Once we receive confirmation that everything on the hardware and software side is a-okay we will begin mass production. Our goal is to shave off time during production in order to get us back on track so we can start shipping these bad boys out.
Again, thanks everyone for your patience and understanding the delay in updates here. I'll be back with more updates as production hits major benchmarks and keep you posted on any important news as I receive it.
tldr; Due to some quality and supply issues there were a couple hiccups that stalled production, but things are getting back on track and we'll be more present with updates
ZiJingWuThat's a good question. From the general tone of the post it seems like but at the same time it doesn't. I'm kind of confused right now as well.
ZiJingWuConsidering he said they're still working on construction/testing of the prototype, nevermind beginning mass production and sorting orders, it's probably safe to say there's no way they'll be shipping in 4 days on the original estimated ship date.
Hopefully they'll be able to give us a new, more concrete estimate once the prototype passes through testing.
AlexPkHello Alex,
What everyone wants to know, which you haven't answered is what impact the issues raised in your email have on the ship date for this product. Is there a new ship date? If so, what is it?
Regards,
AlexPkI am glad to hear you guys are addressing this. My infinity 60% PCB shipped without a diode and I also had to modify my stabilizers because of some 'quality' issues on. I am excited MD is addressing concerns like these for the ErgoDox. Take your time, the attention you are giving these things is appreciated. Can't wait to get to work on these :)
AlexPkHi Alex,
Thank you for the update. I just have one more request. In the future could you send a mail through massdrop updates (the way I get update emails for my other drops). It kind of sucks to poll the forums everyday and comb to find these posts.
Thanks!
AlexPkI understand that you didn't want to make this update, but at least give us a timeline. So far this is a non-update. . .the original post didn't even make it clear that MD was going to miss the drop deadline, that information had to be extracted. I know you were waiting to get some updates before making an official statement (which is a poor excuse for not communicating), but what is the point in waiting if you aren't going to share that information in your statement. Most importantly, what is your new timeline for shipping?
AlexPk..I meant, would it be possible to get the updates via your mailing, instead of the discussion here - it is counter-productive to try & pull this information, rather than having it pushed to participants? Much appreciated
