Can you plug both halves directly into the computer using micro usb 2.0 cables?
I believe that works, but you won't be able to change layers on both sides with one keystroke.
Ah gotcha. How about USB3 connecting the halves and then USB2 to plug into the computer?
I think that should work - but I can't confirm since I'm still waiting for my kit. As I joined in the last minutes during the "push to 1000", mine will be one of the last few boxes to leave Massdrop.
By the way, the Input Club build guide now includes this instruction :
UPDATE 10/20/2015: We are now recommending, in addition to the cable, to add a small bit of solder to the shield pins of the USB3.1 Micro receptacle and the USB 3.0 Type A. Please do this from the TOP of the PCB before you add the switch plate. If you need additional guidance with this step please use the forum to get in contact with us and we will be happy to assist you!
Yep, that should work fine (USB2 Micro B). The extra section that is for USB3 is only used in the interconnect.
Wish this had come up before I assembled mine. Oh well. Hope that connector doesn't break, because removing all those switches would suck.
