Man I've been agonizing on whether or not to buy this since the drop started. Anyone have any input on the ergonomics of this vs an MS Natural Ergonomic 4000? I really want to switch to mechanical, but I don't want to get a flat keyboard and loose the ergonomics since I type a lot. Also, are those Zealios switches worth it? I was going to get Gateron Browns, so it's like a $25 jump, but with a keyboard costing this much might as well get it right the first time lol.

I'd say give the ergodox a go, even if you build it and hate it, you will sell it for more than the massdrop price easily as there are many people that want these, but don't want to build them.

In regards to the Zealios switches, I have the 65g tactile version on my 'dox. They are by far the nicest switches I've typed on yet. Good feedback, food feel, super quiet. My gateron browns are now kind of disappointing to type on.

Interesting. Thanks for the input! Maybe I'll go ahead and hop on this drop then, I love building stuff like this. I might have to get those Zealios switches too... only question now is DSA or DCS keycaps. I have no idea which one I would like better, since I'm pretty new to this world. Although historically I've typed on keys with a fairly level profile, so I'm thinking DSA would be fine. Would I be better off getting caps from the drop or getting them externally? I've said about all I know on keycaps in the last two sentences so I have no idea lol.

I have not soldered in something like a decade and I put this together in less than an hour. Paying a premium for this is not worthwhile at all.

People are lazy and/or scared to try it. Who wants to learn a new skill (soldering) when you can just throw hundreds of dollars at the problem?

I can see soldering being scary to some people. Don't want to melt anything. I would agree that it's pretty easy after a few practice solder joints.
Will we really not get this until late August though? That ship date is the only thing bothering me. I waited a ridiculously long time for my Planck and it didn't end up working out for me, which was a real bummer.

We always strive to deliver early, but the reality is, MFG is a slow process and august is the likely delivery date. Sorry you didn't like your planck :( I hope it found a good home.

Save your money until the thumb cluster design changes. Used mine for two years and sold it.

You mean like the keyboardio? I have large hands, so the ergodox suites me just fine, but I could see people with smaller hands having issues

I was debating on it. It's fun to have a portable keyboard, but it's kind of hard to play games on for me, and LAN parties is what I would need the portability for lol. Does Massdrop have a PM system or anything? Don't want to spam sale stuff in the discussion thread, it's already almost 5000 pages...
On topic though, why didn't the thumb cluster work out for you? My hands are a bit smaller than average, so I was actually concerned about my thumb reaching those keys.
That keyboardio looks really nice too, but I don't think I'm ready to spend that much on a keyboard lol. I was thinking the Ergodox was expensive.

Yup the reaching sucks; the spacebar over time becomes awkward.
email me details of your planck if you plan to sell.

You can attach the Kinesis Freestyle 2 lifts to the bottom of the keyboard halves to get the tenting. This is what I have done with both of my current ErgoDox, and just order another set for the Infinity ErgoDox that arrived recently. I would recommend the V3 lifts for the "classic" case, like the one that comes with the Infinity ErgoDox. The VIP lifts work better with the "full hand" case, that is not currently available for the Infinity ErgoDox.
As for the keyswitches, I went with the Zealios 78g because I wanted something similar to the Cherry MX Clear switches, than a lighter switch, like the Brown for all the letter/number keys. I plan on putting Gateron Brows on all the edge keys and thumb clusters, for lighter activation.

Get your caps in this drop, it's very hard to find an Ergodox full set outside of expensive custom keycap sets.
