Adding the Granite set; ergoDoxian $33 + BonusPack $24 + RGB Modifiers $19 +Common kit $40
For the common kit i guessed a price because couldn’t find it.
So that’s $144 for the keycaps and $265 for the keyboard (mx-clear,no keycaps,no keycap puller, with hand on option)
subtotal would be $409 with $25 shipping is $434 adding the %33 customs crap if i’m lucky that’s an extra $143
For a grand total of $577..
Dear god...that’s a bit more than i can afford hahaha but thanks massdrop..
It's insane is what it is. No way this should cost this much.
Could you produce it for less? Or are you purely speculating that it should in "no way cost this much" because you cannot afford it? I can't justify paying the amount necessary for it right now either because I feel my money's best invested elsewhere but that's why priorities exist - that doesn't mean Massdrop's trying to rip us off. There's no correlation there whatsoever.
To be fair, @TuxKey is choosing a whooole lot of optional stuff there.
it's a premium lifestyle ... in some countries people live a whole year from 577 bucks.
hahahha indeed however according the latest report Oxfam published (and does so each year)
62 people own the same as half the world. That's a painful fact of the level of inequality in the world.
But that's a different discussion altogether just watch "zeitgeist addendum" on netflix and youtube.
only things that are optional are the RGB Mods $19 and BonusPack $24 so $43 in total extra. BTW i did not calculate shipping for the Granite keycap set.
i don't have a DSA profile keycap set laying around so i don't consider that to ben a whole lot of optional stuf.. but rather required.
I'm seeing DSA blanks for $40.
Full hand add-on is stated as an option.
Not saying Ergodox is getting much cheaper by leaving these things out, but you may be confusing wants from needs to have a functional keyboard.
one could argue if a $200 keyboard is a want or a need..i would argue it's probably a bit of both depending on the person.. but i rather like my wooden wrist rest with my current mechanical keyboard can't do without it. so for me if i'm going to buy such a keyboard a wrist rest is more than just a luxury that's why when noting the extra's i didn't even think of removing this..
btw: if one or i wanted to satisfy need rather than want..i would be looking at a Ducky one that i would by from a local reseller for €79 that's with cherry mx-brown .because mx-clears are apparently still rare in average mechanical keyboards ;-)
the unlucky but prominent display of the Granit keycap set on the drop page urged his wants into needs ;-)
Of course, this entire website is full of luxuries. Just telling you that you don't need granites or a palm rest to have a functioning Ergodox, and I'm sure not every user owns both. That's personal preference. So to add both to the original price and state that it isn't affordable is kind of silly. That's all.
Unless you meant to make this post as a personal thought, in which case that's fine and all. May have gotten the wrong impression because there are way too many people who post like "amagerd my configuration is a gorillion dollars more than what drop price states". My bad if that wasn't your intention.
The same could be said for phones, houses, cars, prepared meals, etc....
