guys, what day is it? does it matter if it is shipped now? or do your postage services run on the weekend (they don't in the land down under)

ZweigarThey don't usually deliver unless you get shipping that is more expensive than what I expect them to use, but in my experience watching tracking packages do usually move around in distribution centers on weekends even with cheap shipping. So if they went out today we probably would have gotten them two or three days sooner. I don't think it is getting it a couple days later that is upsetting, it is that we were told " These will be absolutely shipping out next week", "orders for both keyboard kits will be shipping out this week", and, the one that IMO is the biggest letdown "Infinity is shipping tomorrow!". I feel like I have been pretty patient, and tried to give MD the benefit of the doubt, but I am kind of ticked that they used such absolute wording to say that it would be shipping, and then it didn't. Hopefully it is for a good reason.

Zweigarits not gonna get to Australia until 2 weeks from now, so the fact that Australian post doesn't operate on weekends is meaningless. Plus, Its the principle, they said it would be shipped, and they lied.

SuperBobKingOh, didn't mean to upset you. I guess it was false advertising, but one day is meaningless. I was asking if they do ship on weekends, or if they have been shipped but are yet to be distributed. Oh, and the week starts on Monday in aussieland :p

SYNTHESISEOnce again, I really think MassDrop should post updates more often, otherwise people start shouting.

SYNTHESISESo looking at the update it says yesterday (the 6th), which apart from what hour it was said to be taken as the 5th or the 6th, says to me that there hasn't been a lie just yet. This is the first 'bad experience' I've had from Massdrop, by which I mean the first drop I've participated in that didn't meet the estimated ship date (maybe one was a day or two late, nothing long enough to remember and that could be a difference in having tracking information available, USPS can be slow with that...). So I'm not sure where the low expectations come from. I remember reading something about another keyboard drop being delayed, but I don't recall which, when, or how long. The several drops that I've experienced have been positive.
However I think there are a few things that could have been done better. 1) Consistent communication with maybe updates once a week or something, even if it was just to say, nothing has gotten any further than last week. 2) Not promising specific dates when there are so many factors. The AKG 7XX drop is a good example of this, after the first one was hit by a strike/protest at a shipping yard the last one had estimates like "Mid-February". That way you don't lock yourself up in as tight of a timeline. 3) Missing stated communication times. This goes with the other two and I think just served to make certain people more upset.
In all personally, I'm not ecstatic that the drop has slipped so much but I understand that these things happen. Something to keep in mind is that the number of possible variations for this drop is extremely high. Especially when compared to drops in other categories that don't have any options at all! Also most other drops have Massdrop dealing with one manufacturer and shipping as opposed to all of the things involved here. So this drop especially isn't the same as buying a keyboard from Amazon, MechanicalKeyboards.com or whatever in that it is *entirely* custom. It isn't even like buying computer parts from somewhere like Newegg because it isn't like Massdrop is able to keep a supply of these things laying around, maybe the cases and switches, but certainly not the bent frame, and keycaps (since there is the odd right shift), not to mention the PCB! The closest thing I can think of is ordering direct from a company like Cooler Master, or whoever, that has to deal with all the backend suppliers, but again it isn't like Massdrop has that kind of scale..
So Massdrop team, Andrew, HaTaa, and everyone else involved, please just view the above as constructive criticism. As someone else excited to get their hands on this thank you for the hard work!
Everyone else, I agree with some frustrations, but also with giving a little grace.
EDIT: I also agree with those that feel like they've been patient and burned by absolute wording (hence my point #2 above). Something else that came to mind as a positive that seemed like it has fell by the wayside is the openness of the original updates giving details about the stage of various components. Personally I think it was the right thing to wait until after the laser cutting issue was resolved to tell us, but in general I think that having more information on the process as a whole, along with the things I said before, would have given ease to the participants and watchers (Almost 1700 requests for a relaunch! Incredible for a custom product..).

Zweigar"I was asking if they do ship on weekends" Which is what the first half of my comment was addressing. It most likely wouldn't be delivered to our addresses on a weekend, but it would probably move around in distribution centers. Unless big businesses are able to ship on weekends, it will now have to go out on Monday which is a three day delay. If going out on Friday would have made it arrive before the next weekend, and going out Monday doesn't the delay could be longer. If I counted right it is up to five days. At the beginning of the drop a five day delay wouldn't have been much. But I was expecting it to take about five days in transit (which is what brings it up to a five day delay) so the wait time just doubled. Your comment didn't upset me, I was just saying answering your question about how the shipping services work (and therefore why it is more than one day of delay), and explaining why I think people are upset.

trevI can't remeber exactly what time the update was posted, but I think it was before midnight at Madddrop headquarters. If it was posted on Friday, it would make much more sense to say "Monday" and not tomorrow since I don't think they can ship on a Saturday.

trevThe low expectations come from the fact that all 3 of the drops i have participated in have been shipped late.
Granite Keycap Set: (over a month late) Estimated shipping date: October 17th, 2014. Actual Shipipng Date: November 25th, 2014
ErgoDox: (1 week late - understandable, but still late) Estimated Shipping Date: January 29th, 2015. Actual Shipping Date: February 6th, 2015
Infinity keyboard: (over a month late) Estimated Shipping Date: December 26, 2014 Actual Shipping Date: ???
So your experience with massdrop always shipping on time, is not my experience with massdrop. And yes, It isnt the same as buying something from amazon, But they should factor that in to their estimated shipping times. i'm not fussed at how long it takes, I just hate expecting something around a certain time, and not getting it until a month or more later, I just wish their estimates were more accurate.

SYNTHESISEIt would be more difficult for massdrop as they have a different supply train. Maybe appending [shipping date is subject to change ] for items that require multiple sources would help. It would be very hard to estimate the shipping date of these things as massdrop is at the whim of the manufacturer. Another idea is the estimate [based on votes to purchases] and place and order before the drop ends, however this could have bad implications for massdrop. The use of deep learning algorithms could show some interesting trends and help increase the punctuality of shipping.

ZweigarI remembered that it is normal for packages to ship on Saturday, but not Sunday. I don't know why I always forget that they deliver on Saturday. Mine is scheduled to be delivered Saturday, and I still didn't realize that it is normal until a couple days after I saw it in the tracking info.
