I have a question about the mounting plate. What if I order the Infinity Keyboard with the curved aluminum plate, and then down the line I want to change it to a flat plate so that I can mount the board in a 60% case? Will a standard 60% plate fit this board and mount properly? And if so, where can I get one? Thank you.
AElric22By standard plate do you mean a 60% plate for a Poker 2 or KB Paradise V60? Those plates will differ from this plate because of the top right two 1u where backspace usually goes, and also a smaller right shift with a 1u FN key next to it. The Infinity plate will fit in a standard 60% case.
As far as I can tell, you can't buy the flat plate in this drop separately.
aaronvbYes, I meant a 60% plate. And so what you're saying is that if I buy the keyboard with the infinity plate (the one with the curved edges), I can install the keyboard with the curved plate into a standard 60% case with no issues?
AElric22Hmm, to be honest I think you will have issues. To start with, look at this picture https://massdrop-cf2.imgix.net/resizer/1500x1000/r/MD-3854_20141027143404_a25b78b10970eeda.jpg?fm=jpg&q=70 you can see that the flat plate has holes in where you can screw the keyboard to a case. If you look at the bent plate, it has no such holes. Somewhere in this comments is there is the cad files for the plates and the PCB. I will try to see if I can find them.
AElric22Found it, https://github.com/kiibohd/case/tree/master/infinity-keyboard under case there will be 4 files; I believe the one for 'infinity case' is the flat plate. It may be better to order the plate with that cad file to a service that will cut items from cad files you provide.
KhalkiOh perfect!! All I needed was the CAD files. I'm an engineer, I can always just make my own of anything lol. Thanks for the CAD files dude. Maybe I can offer to make extra plates for anyone else who is interested in doing the same thing as I am. I don't think I would want to make the curved piece because it looks too complicated and requires sheet metal bending. The simplest thing would be to get the right sized piece of aluminum sheet and just use a CNC mill to take care of the rest for the flat plate.
Thanks. I just really didn't want to end up having to buy a case on top of the plate without being able to have the curve aluminum plate if I decided to go ahead and buy the kit. I'd rather spend that money down the road than all at once.
KhalkiIn addition, do I need to buy cherry stabilizers and any other parts for the keyboard to function properly? Or does the kit come with them? Thanks.
AElric22With a cnc mill you might have to modify the holes for the switches in order to get the radius of the corners small enough. I know that there has been some discussion on geekhack about doing it, and the user nudecnc has been working on a design. It is worth checking out.
