Anyone ever use these for backpacking?

nfischerI do. I have been using this for backpacking for the last six months. I have only been using Inov8s train running shoes for backpacking for the last 5 years. Love them. Great grip. Much more durable than Altras. Light. Low drop. Happy to answer any questions you might have!

DannyMilksNice, thanks. How heavy of a pack are you usually using and how far/many days do you typically go? Also how do these fit? Trying to nail shoe size on a drop on the first try is a nightmare.

nfischerI haven't used these, but I used the previous generation Inov-8 295s. I've taken them out as long as 3 day / 2 nights, maybe 30 miles. Base weight is around 20 lbs, so usually carrying around 25-30-ish lbs at the start of a trip depending how much water I have on me.
I bought the Inov-8 325s a few weeks ago (same shoe, but with a high-ankle boot cut). They are really nicely made shoes. The mesh looks as though it'll hold up better than the 295s (the 2015 model year was very fragile) and I'm liking the new wider tread pattern. I'm excited to take them out in a couple weeks.
Typical sizing for Inov-8s is true size +1/2. I'm a 10.5 80% of the time and wear an 11 in the 4-5 Inov-8 models across 3-4 manufacturing years.

nfischerEdit: The text below refers to the roclite 295 trail running shoes which I mistakenly thought these were. These are just a running shoe vs a trail running show. I'm not sure what differences that makes or if it's mostly just marketing. I have 2 pairs of innov8s and they are both great. These are probably awesome too.
I use them exclusively as my hiking and backing footwear. When I backpack, I've typically got about 22-30 pounds total pack weight depending on the season. However, I use these far more frequently for day hiking with my family. The 3 year old is great for about half a mile and then needs to go into our child carrier. Once she is on my back I've got 40-45 pounds on and I have done 6 mile trips with her on my back on wet rocks with no problems. These are the grippiest shoes I have ever owned and I often climb wet rocks with no assistance/hand holds that others in my group have to be much more careful on.
My current pair is going to be ready for replacement by next spring (switching to warmer shoes soon where I'm from). I'll wear them in the mud and muck of spring and then pull these out of the closet. I will continue replacing them until innov8 no longer makes them.

nfischer@nfischer I have a pair of the Mudclaw trail running shoes and they are fantastic for rucking. They're super comfortable and grippy on just about any surface (the only exception being wet rock but what grips well on that?). My only complaint would be that the soles are a bit too flexible for backpacking/rucking but they are running shoes so it's not a big deal.

IamthepiemanAccording to the Inov-8 website description, these are trail runners. Here's their quote:
"Run with confidence with our lightest, most flexible men's trail running shoe. The ROCLITE 290 is designed for running quickly over multi terrains. Delivering a responsive ride and high levels of durability, it's perfect for moving fast over everything from mountain rock to muddy grass, hard-packed trails and roads."

IamthepiemanThese are the successors to the Roclite 295 and built for the same terrain. I own the older gen Roclite 295 and the newer 320 with the higher ankle cut. I like the new ones better, the sole is a bit more versatile and the upper is a bit more durable. If I didn't own too many shoes I would grab these to (eventually) replace my 295s.
