I sized up half a size. I'm a 10.5E. I wear a standard 10.5 75% of the time in shoes. I consistently wear an 11 in Inov-8s, these were no different.
Bought these the last time they dropped. Tried them out in Antelope Canyon on sandtone. Love 'em.
Owned a few pairs of the older Roclite 295s, which are the equivalent of current generation Roclite 290s. Fit is similar, maybe a touch wider at the end of the shoe. I LOVE the gusseted tongue, it keeps out a ton of debris. I like the new tread pattern, grip is similar but it's releases debris a lot more easily. The only thing I can't attest to right now is how well it drains, feels like it might retain a bit more water than previous generations because the weave on the shoe is bit tighter than previous years. Upside of that is you get less sand/dust in your shoes.
The high ankle doesn't add a ton of support if you have weak ankles. Material just isn't that sturdy. It does create a higher barrier for debris getting into the shoe though. I would caution against going too hard in these if you're not used to minimalist shoes, but I have no problem backpacking in them.
Only major complaint is they have a bit more heel-toe drop (8 mm) than I like. If they were 0-4, they'd be perfect for me.
