Solid pen, feels like it should cost more. Stub nib is a pleasure.
This is a "Tank"-ard. Built to last with excellent materials and a great weight for my preference. Flow is consistent and I have not experienced leaks at all. I wish they had easier to find replacement nibs, but I do love this pen. I gave this to my son and he was thrilled.
This is the second Italix pen (after Italix Churchman's Prescriptor) and is the most practical one. The Italic nibs are very wet (my previous medium Italic was practically a wet broad) so if you have preferences be sure to inquiry about them.
Other than that the pen is very balanced and a pleasure to use.
I was interested in using a fine left oblique, which this pen offered. It was scratchy and had to be smoothed and tuned before it wrote well. It was inexpensive to buy BUT, after the added tuning it cost much more. Perhaps the regular nibs -EF, F, M, B, etc. are okay = this one was not satisfactory. I would not recommend or buy this one again.
Oh yes, almost forgot. Screwing the cap onto the pen body encounters resistance. I would seem that the threads are not smooth, not finished or both. - My next tuning" project. I know it was not an expensive (relatively speaking) purchase but my Nemosine Singularity seems to be higher quality!
I have owned many fountain pens and this is one of the worst. Absolutely no ink flow despite being full. Scratchy across the paper. I shall be returning.
The Chaplain's Tankard is a good size for my hands and easily fits in shirt pockets. The metal on metal threads for the cap are not smooth at all and get caught or cross threaded when trying to screw the cap back off or onto the section. The nib, while smooth for a cursive, is not as well tuned as some of the other models I have had. Overall, while I will continue to love Italix pens and the value they represent, this particular model is not up to prior standards.
This pen is has some weight to it, maybe too much for some but I like it. It’s very well built, no flaws in the construction, fit and finish are very nice. It’s an extremely handsome pen, simple and classic.
I got a cursive italic and it writes beautifully, very happy with the range of nib sizes. I highly recommend this pen, really excellent quality for the price.
