The footwear of choice during Britain’s Victorian and Edwardian eras, the balmoral boot is making a comeback—and bringing a touch of that top-hat-and-coattails flair into today’s modern ensembles. Take the J. FitzPatrick Wedgwood: a classic dress shoe with a twist, made in Spain and debuting exclusively right here on Massdrop. Set on the company’s TMG last, these Goodyear-welted, fully leather-lined shoes boast a slimmer look and impeccable construction. The contrasting textures of the calfskins add interest, with the curvature of the connecting lines of the upper and heel counter reflected smartly in the stitching along the eyelets. Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of color: black, burgundy, or brown. All shoes are made to order, and due to the time required to secure the leather from France and Germany and build the shoes in Spain, the Wedgwoods have an estimated lead time of 3 months. J. FitzPatrick shoes fit true to size and use UK sizing, which is generally one size down from US sizing. For more information, see the company’s size guide.
For the black Wedgwood, J. FitzPatrick uses Weinheimer calfskin for the bottom portion and Weinheimer grain for the upper sleeve, both sourced from Germany. For the brown boot, the company sources museum calfskin from Italy’s Ilcea Tannery for the bottom portion and Weinheimer grain for the top. And on the burgundy shoe, you’ll find crust calfskin from Italy’s Nuova Antilope Tannery on the bottom portion, and Weinheimer grain on the top.
Inspired by English, Italian, and French footwear design, J. FitzPatrick offers integrative styles that fuse traditional shapes with modern influences and unconventional color options. From studying as an apprentice in Florence to launching the well-respected footwear blog, The Shoe Snob, the brand’s founder, Justin FitzPatrick, now influences the world of menswear as a footwear designer. J. FitzPatrick Footwear focuses heavily on construction, comfort, and design that speaks to FitzPatrick’s unique aesthetic.
