I have a high arch many balmoral shoes don't fit me well either large V gap or tight on the vamp. Can anyone comment on the fit of this boot and last for a person with a high instep?

Bond007you will not fit in his boots. Generally speaking his lasts are more toward the flat arch.

Bond007That's a real shame I was looking fwd to these boots but sounds like the risk of them not fitting me is high. Thanks.

namknowsI cant say I agree with that. Many people actually say that our insteps are high compared to most. But it greatly depends on just how high someones instep is

Bond007I just stopped at the local AE store and I tried on every pair of 65 last shoes that I don't own and they all fit fine. Now granted there is a let's call it a half inch to 3/4 max gap at the top of the V gap. But they all fit in the area of the vamp and I could wear them. Now if this last is a bit more generous I'm thinking it will fit me ok.

TheShoeSnobI was also looking for information on how high the instep on these are. The only oxfords I own are a pair of AE Fifth Streets - ankle boot balmorals, 5 last). I'm 8D brannock (could possibly go down to 8C on roomier lasts), and wear 8D in AE's 1 and 5 lasts. The Fifth Streets don't close up all the way, especially on my left foot. Seems my left foot has a higher instep. The right foot has about a 0.5" inch gap at the top, while the left is closer to 1" gap. Any idea how these boots would fit? Thanks.

YabosMcGee I would imagine that our boots will fit just fine and probably close properly at the facing. The pattern on the Fifth streets often allows for gaping between the facing as it was not cut properly IMHO. I would suggest the UK7.

TheShoeSnobI received the Wallingfords today and they fit very well. I was concerned a bit about my high instep but your last is generous. The V-gap at the top is about 1/4 inch and the shoes are new and I did not lace them tight. So I think the UK9E is a very good fit for me being a US10D. To give others an idea in Allen Edmonds 65 last I wear a 10D and new shoes will have a half inch V-gap at the top when new. So seems at least for the J. FitzPatrick Wallingford 9E it is actually a bit more generous in the instep then for example an Allen Edmonds 10D 65 last.

Bond007Which last is that Wallingford? From the J Fitzpatrick site, it seems the Wallingfords use a different last than these Wedgwoods. I'm in the same boat as you, with a high instep.

Bond007It is on the MGF last so it will have just a bit more room then the TMG but if your instep is like mine you should be ok. I have learned that J Fitzpatrick shoes are well fitted even if your foot is a bit odd size. Also for this boot at this price it is worth a bit of chance as you will never be able to get this for this price. Also if you have ever worn an Allen Edmonds 65 last shoe since IMO the MGF has even more room than the 65 think if the TMG as about the same as the 65.

Bond007To clarify for you, when I say more room I am speaking specifically for instep. So if you can fit ok in the AE 65 you should be fine. Also the J Fitzpatrick shoes do run exactly 1 size down for US to UK so I am a US 10D so the UK 9E is an exact match.
