Prices on Amazon for 1/17/2017:
Emerald of Chivor: $19.07 (Prime)
Caroube: $17.89 (Prime)
Rouge Hematite: $17.11 (Prime)
Ocean Bleu: $19.03 (Prime)
Stormy Gray: $24.38 (Fulfilled by someplace called "Stationery Addicts USA"; promise free shipping. Doesn't seem to be Prime eligible)
Sooo, if you want a lot of Stormy Gray, I guess go for it, but you'll be saving minimally and waiting maximally.
Edit: Alternatively, spend the extra few dollars and get a bottle ($26) from GouletPens.com, a class organization with ACTUAL customer service. (Are you listening Massdrop??)
JazzmanIt'll be my first gold-nibbed pen. As for Lamy's, I only have an AL-Star. As for other pens, well ... too many might be an accusation I could own up to.
Hi folks,
I haven't posted anything in a little while, but I had to chime in, here. This is a great deal. I doubt it will last the full 7 days, so if you're on the fence, I'd suggest pulling the trigger (deliberately mixed metaphor). Just regarding this drop:
1. This is an awesome price for CONUS.
2. You can get one bottle of each! Yippee!
3. If you're considering this drop, you probably don't need these yesterday.
4. Even with unexpected delays, etc, my experience with Massdrop is that they are absolutely committed to making sure you get what you bought. In the condition you expect.
About the ink:
For those who know, this will be redundant. For those who don't:
1. These are truly unique inks. They have teeny, tiny flecks in the bottle that give your writing an amazing sheen, especially when using larger nib sizes or stubs (remember to shake carefully before filling that pen).
2. These are especially well suited for personal correspondence and calligraphy; they make your writing sparkle, literally!
3. I don't know how wet they write (depends on the pen) or similar properties. I've heard they play well with wet flex pens (think: Noodler's Ahab).
4. They are NOT low-maintenance inks. The pens will need to be cleaned thoroughly before filling, used frequently once filled and cleaned thoroughly after.
5. If you don't think you'll go through a full fill, try only filling your pen 1/2-way.
6. The bottle is beautiful, but the opening is rather small.
Helpful hint: In order to preserve the majority of my bottled ink, I pull about 3-6 ml out of the bottle at a time. I transfer this amount to a 7ml vial (like the ones that the Goulets sell). Then I use that ink (from the vial) in my pen. When I'm done with an ink and don't want to flush away 0.5ml of perfectly good ink, I can push it out of my pen and back in the vial from whence it came. It doesn't significantly compromise the small ~5ml in the vial, it completely preserves the ink in the "source" bottle, and you only lose the ink in the feed when you change inks before you naturally run out.
I don't know if I'll be joining this drop - my funds are severely limited for the foreseeable future. But if you're interested, live in CONUS and don't need these yesterday, I encourage you to join the drop soon. Again, I don't think this will last the full 7 days.
Disclaimer: Beyond being a happy customer and a fairly active poster, I have no affiliation with Massdrop.
I hope this helps anyone considering joining this drop.
Cheers.
ps. Over 60 sold with a 150 limit? No way is this going to last 7 more days (time left as of this post).
Edited: Added "ps"
Update 7/14 on Massdrop v. Amazon for this ink:
Since Massdrop has eliminated free US shipping for this product and decided to charge $8.25, Amazon is by far the better deal, and all but one of the colors is available with free prime shipping.
I do like Massdrop quite a bit, but don't understand why it would offer this particular product on these particular terms.
Amazon prices (11:30 AM 11/2/2015)
Emerald: 22.36
Blue: 19.01
Red: 19.85
Grey: 20.71
So unless you're getting three of Emerald you'd be better off on Amazon, and you get faster (US) shipping.
mulrichAlso, another data point for you all ...
The lowest drop price during this current round is $65.99 with free shipping.
The previous two drops earlier this year were $59.99 + $3.28 shipping (or $63.27 total).
Current amazon prices for J Herbin inks:
Blue: 19.56 (Prime shipping)
Emerald: 15.25 (+9 shipping)
Red: 18.53 (Prime shipping)
Grey: 19.85 (Prime shipping)
So this drop is great if you use it to get 3 bottles of emerald ink, otherwise not so good (especially with a ship date in mid-February compared to 2-day shipping).
Ugh, so we have all three colors now and can't just order one of each. These bottles last a LONG time so very, very few would need a second of the same color at any point in the near future.
Im asking again please does any one know about the shelf life of these inks- both opened and sealed?
These wont get used up in a hurry because of their nature so I ll probably take about 2-3 years to use these up (I have a lot of inks)
Thanks in advance
SpiralGuySure, @SpiralGuy,
I use vials from the used ink samples I've gotten from Goulet Pens. The Goulets also sell the vials on their own (10 for $3), but I wouldn't place an order just for the vials if that's what you're interested in.
As I also use these vials for ink swaps, I like that they have the ml markings on them: 6 markings, the first 5 are labelled 1-5ml.
They have secure screw tops and are plastic (so are less prone to break). While they will sit flat on a surface, the inside is conical on the bottom making them easier to use for filling fountain pens. I'm not sure what you can get from Amazon. I've accumulated enough of these vials getting ink samples that I have enough. They fit nicely in the 15-17mm diameter test-tube racks (that you can get from Amazon).
I would be reluctant to use glass vials (expensive shipping), easier to break. I would also be reluctant to use any viials that have a curved bottom or can't be set on a flat surface stably.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
