The oldest name in ink production, J. Herbin was founded in 1670 by an enterprising sailor armed with sealing wax formulas from his travels in India. After designing specialty inks for French luminaries like Louis XIV and Victor Hugo, the company became synonymous with high-quality writing supplies. The Amethyste De L’Oural is the first ink in the new 1798 Collection, which commemorates a special year for Herbin and a turning point in the history of France. Named for the Ural Mountains that stretch across western Russia, the ink is a deep, rich, velvety purple with a shimmer that suggests a silver mist. It’s reminiscent of the color of royalty or the hue of the gemstone prized for its calming, meditative qualities.
