Disappointed with mine. The stitching on the strap and the way it has been cut is uncomfortable and sticks into the skin. Glue is already coming off and it hasn't even been on the wrist for half a day. Looks alright but that's where it ends unfortunately. For the price I expected a better quality of finish (have bought two of the Ashland straps in their last drop and were better quality and cheaper.)

Just received mine, and I don't think it's from Horween. I have the "Guarded Goods Shell Cordovan Watch Strap" (also from Massdrop) and it's pretty different. The GG one is softer / more pliable, and the underside (the part touching your wrist) is smoother and more finished. It's like GG is nubuck (but smoother) & JF is rough out leather (on the inside. the outside is pretty similar). In terms of overall quality, I'm not impressed, but I'm not "unsatisfied" either: *The lug ends are mismatched - buckle side (12 o'clock end) is maybe 20.5mm, and the adjustment side (6 o'clock end) is 21.5. I ordered a 21 and put it on a 22 watch just to confirm: one side has a lot of obvious side-to-side play and the other is almost snug. *The glue on the buckle/lug side is gone already and it can flap around. it's fine on the 6 o'clock strap. Not even one day of wear.
The strap does narrow from lug-end to end, presumably so that they can use the same hardware for different strap widths. Not an issue per se, but something to note.
If Guarded Goods does a two-part strap, i think i'll go in with that instead of this. Again, not a bad strap, but not great.

From the description I am guessing the shell cordovan is NOT from Horween?

I have a regular leather Jack Foster strap and the quality is fantastic. The straps are thin-ish due to only one layer of leather, but fine as long as you don't have a massive watch that requires a thick strap. I use mine on a Seiko Turtle and Tudor Black Bay. I am buying one of these Shell Cordovan straps because I've been eyeing them on the Jack Foster site and this price is plenty good enough to jump on. Glad to see a legit discount on these!

Considering what you can get very nice leather straps for nowadays these seem pretty expensive....

SantiagoDracoMy initial thoughts were similar. Shell cordovan (new to me) seems to be a premium leather, so I wouldn't equate these with other leather straps, nice as they may be, these are made of a specific type of leather - http://bestleather.org/all-about-shell-cordovan-with-horween-leather-co/
E.g. I googled 'shell cordovan shoes' and I'm not seeing anything less than 600 bucks in the first page of hits.
Interesting bit I found:
" You may or may not be aware, but boots made with leather from a horse's ass are actually held in pretty high regard. It's not just boots, either. From wallets to belts to watch straps, anything made from shell cordovan—which comes from the rump of the horse and can take six full months to properly prepare—sees a significant price bump. But why?
Well, there are a couple of reasons, and they're actually pretty simple. First off, that six-month production timeline isn't exactly cheap. But beyond that, shell cordovan is a near-perfect combination of beauty and brawn. It looks smooth, and eventually, it feels smooth, too. Cordovan boots don't crease like all of your other boots. As you wear them in, and the leather softens, you'll see creasing in the normal spots, but it's subtle and pliable—a far cry from the hard, cracked line you might see in lower-quality leather. "

Do they pick up, um, sweat stink as easily as most leather straps? And is there a way of getting rid of it?

CloacaNo. Shell cordovan is actually a highly finished leather that cleans well and is even water resistant (no salt water!) within reason. If you sweat a lot, simply clean the strap off with a good leather cleaner/conditioner. I am wearing a Horween shell cordovan strap right now, and it is HOT outside. I have not owned this brand, but I love shell cordovan. This stuff is magic.

jilgilGood morning :)
I've got four of his shell cordovan straps and three regular leather straps and they are all excellent quality and as has been said before, the sc straps normally run $105/each. One, shell cordovan is a very fine leather and two, Jack Foster shell cordovan is excellent quality and you should be very happy with your purchase.
Have a great day and enjoy😊
Cheers🍻 RP

Do these taper down? Like the 18mm tapers down to a buckle width of 16mm or a 19mm that tapers to a 16mm? I want to use my existing 16mm vintage rolex buckle on a 19mm strap.

jbelmDoesn't look like they taper, just my 2-cents. I am always fiddling with straps, there are a few sites that not only list the lug width but also the width at the buckle. Enjoy looking, for me when you find the right strap it's like getting a whole new watch. :)
