Featuring a bowl case that calls to mind an ancient Roman tripod, the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde SW has plenty of personality. The figure-eight-style dial has an oversized seconds subdial (where the watch gets its name) and an hours subdial with Roman numerals Read More
Both are correct, Romans change it at some-point. The "subtract" form was widely, but never universally, followed. Seems Swiss guards liked the "additive" form. :D
WaygooksaramOriginally, it was common to use IIII to represent four, because IV represented the Roman god Jupiter, whose Latin name, IVPPITER, begins with IV. The subtractive notation (which uses IV instead of IIII) has become the standard notation only in modern times.

They have sold 4 of these. Hard to understand other than the discounted price perhaps? Does this brand really sell at $15K normally?
truizIt is a very nice brand but it is always discounted as it is one of these "resurrected" brands. It just does not have the pedigree to sell for that price.
They are more of a lesser known swiss brand. People think of Rolex and breitling and tag heuer as high end. When in reality they are more of swiss medium end brands. Higher ends are more in the range of Jacob & co, christophe claret, arminstrom, de bethune, etc. jaquet droz is between rolex and these higher end brands, all of which are lesser known, this brand does usually sell for about their price. The drop price is the best i have ever seen one sell for.
I looked at this watch, then threw up a little in my mouth. I looked at this watch's price tag, and the throw up came all the way out.
You would think at almost $15K, the watchmaker could show a little taste.
I love the SW but even discounted it is super expensive and the legibility is questionable. I personally like it more on the solid steel bracelet. Also drop is wrong that it is “Jaquet droz own movement” the movement is a Frederic Piguet/manufacture blancpain movement. Blancpain shares its top grade movements with JD. Also I believe that even with all the fancy decorating and components that this movement doesn’t hack which to me is laughable for a 5k+ piece.
You didn’t understand what I meant. Blancpain was given Frederic Piguet as their designated movement manufacture and F.P. became manufacture Blancpain. Manufacture Blancpain is a part of the brand blancpain and makes the movements for Blancpain the brand. I didn’t mean that the movement company became a fully fledged watch company. So there is the watch brand Blancpain and manufacture Blancpain which makes movements to put into the brands watches. It is a piece of the company now and not a separate entity is what I meant. Just like how lemania became a part of Breguet and now handles all the movement manufacturing for Breguet.
MarPablNo but I can see a good value in the brand as long as you don’t pay retail full price on this one was $2800 i don’t think it’s worth that but it’s a pretty well made watch and for $600 it’s a great watch
