My headphone DAC have only 1 set of RCA output, anyone know if I could connect it to LSR 305?
I'm in the same boat. Just use some RCA to TRS adapters.
RCA and TRS are two totally different things, you can only get cables that will switch RCA to TS, but unfortunately these monitors are not designed for unbalanced inputs.
Appreciate the correction. I meant TS, not TRS. The LSR305 can be used with unbalanced input without a problem per the manual. Probably not a huge difference unless you're using a long cable run.
You can use a USB interface such as the Focusrite 2i2 and have balanced output but the headphone output has very low power and can't drive orthos or similar mid to high impedance headphones. I just want a combo DAC/headamp with balanced, switchable pre-out/line-out and enough power to drive high end headphones such as the LCD-2. Does such a thing exist?
YES, I think what you are looking for is the TEAC UD-301, or the UD-501. Check them out, I've got the 301 and could not be happier.
The UD-301 looks nice except for the lack of power on the headphone output. TEAC's specs say it provides only 100 mW/channel into 32 ohms which is not enough for me. I'm coming from a Magni which can deliver 1.2W/channel into 32 ohms so I want something at least that powerful. At this point I think I'm going to go with the audio-gd NFB-11 and hope that the unbalanced connection to the LSR305 will work.
