say I buy the ODAC and use the rca > receiver > speakers then eventually I buy the o2 and do 3.5 jack > odac > headphones
will I be able to have the two plugged in and working at the same time ?

Hey Jseaber, Just between you and me and the internet. How is NWAVGuy? You ever consult with him directly or just nab the plans and get buildin'. I believe you were the guys he talked about when manufacturing started.

According to this http://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/16qa8j/any_ideas_to_figure_out_what_happened_to_nwavguy/cahxjvy they only have anonymous emails of his. Not sure if anything has come up since then though.

@Elsie: Yes, a USB cable is included with all ODACs. Default length is 3ft.
IEEE published an article in print this month titled, "In Search of NwAvGuy." An online copy is available here: http://spectrum.ieee.org/geek-life/profiles/nwavguy-the-audio-genius-who-vanished
Considering NwAvGuy was such an active engineer, I expect he'll find the article. If he makes no appearances, we'll at least know he has personal reasons.
@hanivi: The drop cannot be modified at this point.
@ZeosPantera: Retail price of the RCA ODAC has been 169 for quite a while.
As for NwAvGuy, yes, we exchanged emails while he was active. He's completely absent even to us, as of 2012. Check out the article above ^^
