Hi guys,
Micro Hatchets clearly were not a thing here, but we thought it was worth a try. This is a handmade piece of tool steel, made one at a time in the USA. These sell out at full price most places in minutes. Some days it may not be because of the design as much as the maker and the following they've cultivated over years of making high quality and highly desirable items.
We are always looking to expand the offerings here at Massdrop to introduce people to new things that they may not have seen before and making them available to the community. Sometimes that means we showcase something that doesn't appeal to everyone or anyone here.
However, based on the feedback here and the fact that only one person has joined the drop, this is something of the latter. So I am going to close this drop and make room for something else.

Looking over the knife maker's gallery on his website, it's clear he hasn't spent much time in the outdoors. All tacticool style, no practical use. This "hatchet" is worse than useless, insomuch as not only is it useless, but you will expend energy/calories carrying it around your neck.

Yknow, someone, somewhere requested this drop, and even more people have supported it for it to be here.
Unless this is a really elaborate joke by the folks over at Massderp.

To be clear, I have a very high respect for the craftsmanship that goes into custom pieces like this. And I acknowledge that an expert's touch justifies a premium.
I'm just baffled in terms of usability. . .

It's interesting as novelty knife, but the price has me confused. First, the things are tiny. I'd be interested to see someone using these. And while they're more or less good looking, I wouldn't call it an art knife. Also, the material isn't particularly expensive. If anyone has any insight on these, I'd love to hear it.

This is hilarious! Not only the price of the extremely micro hatchet but 50 extra dollars for two pieces of leather sewn together! I thought massdrop was supposed to have good deals on stuff people actually want. Not horrible prices on garbage no one needs.

For blazing your way through the Parsley forest...... OK, it's cool, and I hate to join the chorus, but $244.00/MSRP $260.00 almost seems like someone's testing the water for stupid.....

Sheesh...I was expecting a war in the comments but it seems one sided. Where are all the defenders of high priced folders with their creative and insightful comments like "don't like it don't buy it! " and "stop sh_tting on what you can't afford." Anyway I like the looks of this thing, but any knife with a finger hole may put you in jeopardy if a cop chooses to label the item as a "metal knuckle" with a blade attached to it incidentally. I have not carried anything including karambits, bear claws or La Griff's because of this possibility.

Respect to Mr. Bowen for an eye-catching design, but this is an incredibly hard sell at $225, much less $260 retail. I don't see the value here, and I'm usually a sucker for premium alloys.

Am I the only one that realizes that the site they give "Uncrate", as a review site, has a "buy it" button that says the little hatchet is priced at $160? For some reason I think this is a little priced over that.

Hi folks, We are really excited to bring you our first offering from Knifemaker Joseph Bowen from Texas!
Joseph was visiting TAD Gear and supporting the Dogpatch Warehouse Sale here in San Francisco last weekend. We were lucky enough to get him to put a few pieces aside for us in advance of the event so we could bring them to the Massdrop community. The first piece we are launching is Joseph’s ever popular Micro Hatchet. A handy little neck knife or pocket carry piece.
Here is a link to the Micro Hatchet on TAD Gear’s site. http://store.tripleaughtdesign.com/Joseph-Bowen-Micro-Hatchet-TAD-Edition
Joseph started using Carpenter PSF 27 Stainless Steel with this batch. He calls it a super version of D2 Tool Steel (D2 has been popular for a long while with makers as tool steel tends to be tough by nature and able to hold an edge longer than other steels. PSF 27 has an enhanced D2 chemical composition giving it higher toughness, greater chipping resistance and higher wear resistance than D2.)
