I bought both the standard and the max.
First, the standard are very good keycap trays for cherry profile keycaps. Hold everything secure, thick plastic, and stack well. The max on the other hand do all of that and hold so many more keycaps. All laid out on one plane makes your sets look really cool. Only downside is max doesn't hold cherry keycaps as well, but holds MT3 and SA. In the future I would love to see a max style of the standard trays.
These are easily the best keycap containers that I have ever used.
The larger model (the ‘Max’) can hold two complete sets of keycaps for a 104/105-key full-size keyboard, and look good while doing it.
I buy full-profile SA kits, and even the tallest Row 1 caps fit within the ‘Max’ model.
My only difficulty is to decide what to do with all my other keycap storage cases: I paid good money for them, and now they are worthless junk to me.
I am so happy to see that Drop is selling these storage trays again. Not only would I recommend this product to a friend, but I am about to buy a few more for myself right now.
Overall I'm quite pleased with the product. I bought one "Max" case. One issue I had with a previous keycap storage solution I bought from China was it could not fit high profile keycaps.
This one fits all my MT3 caps nicely but Cherry profile keycaps have a LOT of headroom. I made the mistake of turning it sideways once and all my Cherry profile keycaps went all over the place. So long as the case remains flat it fits all my extra keycaps nicely.
Ordered 8 Max trays. They were packaged pretty nicely with packaging bubbles and each tray was in a thin plastic bag. There were no scratches or cracks on any of the trays.
Would give zero if possible because Drop lives up to their name and dropped the ball again
The standard trays are now only sold individually for the same price as a pair direct from JTK or any other vendor. Better yet Drop is using the same product page for when they sold them as a pair so all reviews/discussion prior to my purchase was in regards to the pair and when I messaged them after getting 2 individual trays rather than 2 sets I was told "oh well fuck you" basically.
Buy from another vendor because doubling the price while using the same fucking product page is misleading and a dick move, what more could you expect from the shit show drop has always been though right?
JTK trays are great, and are pretty much the best storage solution for keycaps out there. THAT said, just go for the MAX Tray. Most places sell the STANDARD sized trays in pairs for approximately the same price (~$20) and here it's a single small tray that cannot hold a complete keycap set. Either spring for the MAX (it's better value) or just buy a pair of standard ones from another place.
I bought the Max version for my MT3 keycaps, but like others have said there are quality control issues. The spacing in my tray is not consistent and the keycaps don't actually fit in some of the rows, defeating the whole purpose of it. In particular the 1u slots are the exact size of the keycap so it's obviously not going to work.
Seems like a nice tray otherwise, but I would advise buying through another vendor. Drop would NOT accept a return or make any attempt toward a resolution. In case you get a dud like mine, it would be best to go through a seller that can return/refund or make an exchange.
The pricing on the max is good and is competitive to other vendors
DO NOT BUY the tray for 65% or standard. Drop is essentially price gouging the cost of one trays. You can get two standard trays at MKUltra for less than the cost of one tray.
