Despite being 5k compatible displaylink makes this worthless
Displaylink is technology which compresses the video signal to send it over USBc. Without any graphics intensive processes merely word processing the mouse would lag on the screens that were attached through this and the CPU would spike to 90% activity. It all boils down to this need to compress the signal. Very disappointed that this is the case i eventually got rid of this dock, its sitting in a box of cords in case i need a backup. It will never be relegated to my primary dock however. The mouse lag was insanely frustrating and i couldn't imagine gaming on it, it would probably melt your CPU.

Not to shaby for the intended use. I know its shortcomings before buying it. Things I dont like:
  1. The USB-C cable to connect the docking to the laptop is 1 inch shor for my liking
  2. The SD card reader is too close to the power input, it makes it difficult to remove once the card was inserted
Other than that, Im peaches

I bought the Chockdock. Before it arrived I discovered that not all USB C is the same. I wanted to use the device to connect my Mate 10 smartphone to my USB C Asus Zen Go portable monitor. I chose the Chockdock because it has two USB C ports, one for power input and the other for data and, as I thought, video. This unit does not support video on the USB ports. This was my mistake, but anyone hoping to use this device as a hub for a smartphone to a USB C equipped monitor will, like me, be disappointed. How many stars to give, the fault was mine and it does what it says on the box. I will be keeping the hub for other purposes so it is not a dead loss. I think that it would have been helpful if the description clarified that the USB ports do not support video so a couple of stars go missing for the information deficit.

HDMI doesn’t work with recent versions of MacOS. Massdrop knows this and is still offering the dock. Very disappointed not just that a clearly defective product was offered in the first place, but that it is also now being RELISTED. Trying to get a refund but Massdrop hasn’t responded to any of my emails once I accepted their offer of a refund. It’s prettt clear that MD cares more about their vendors then their customers.

HDMI didn't work with MacOS Mojave 10.14.2. If anyone has any solutions, it would be greatly appreciated.

meixnerWas able to get a refund through MD. They’re aware that it doesn’t work with MacOS, they just don’t care.

This works well for newer laptops with the USB-C connector and is useful when you keep many peripherals on a desktop but frequently take the laptop on the road like I do. I keep an external monitor and several external storage devices on the docking station.

I sometimes got lost frames in high definition video. Other than that everything is great.

Update: It took about 2 weeks for the company to initially get back to me for my service request. The experience was pretty much painless after that. I just got it in yesterday. If all goes well for a few weeks, I will probably restore the 5 star rating. While I appreciate that other users are annoyed that this doesn't charge your laptop, you won't find a USB / TB dock that does for under about $250, and definitely not with as many expansion ports and options. If it works, it is an amazing deal for the price. ------------------------------------- Note 2: I'm deleting another star. It's been almost a week since I sent in a service request (Last Friday). No reply other than the initial automated "We've received your request" email. They said 24 hours. Also, in trying to set up an account to check the status manually, their website it unresponsive and won't let me in. So, I'm pretty much hanging right now. Right now I would NOT recommend this docking station as while I may have just gotten a bad unit, their customer service is just not very good at even responding to fix the issue that came up. ------------------------------------- Note: I'm editing this review and subtracting stars due to the partial failure of my unit after about 3 weeks of use (It's stopped transmitting video through the DisplayPort ports, just giving errors instead. The rest of the ports still seem to work.). If the return goes smoothly and the new unit doesn't fail quickly, I will change this back to 5 stars. -------------------------------------- Original Review: NOTE: I had to install the drivers from the website for this to work correctly - the default display-link drivers that are included in Windows / MacOS don't work and caused a lot of stutter and lag. Once the provided drivers were installed it worked perfectly for programming / productivity apps, with no stuttering and no noticeable lag. I'm not using it for really graphically intense purposes like games, so I can't comment if there's much lag for that. I'm driving two 60Hz 2K monitors, Ethernet, keyboard and a DAC through it without problems. It doesn't include charging, which sucks, but for the price here ($120) and everything it comes with, I think it's still worth 5 stars. Edited for spelling and to include setup information.
