Are these multipurpose (suited for music and gaming on top of the advertised movie watching)? A grand is a hefty sum if they're only suited for movies :/

Well sure :) I haven’t heard this JVC implementation, but spacial audio processing can improve music too. You see, headphones typically direct the sound into your ears, with a small soundstage and a hard separation between what you hear in your left and right ears. That’s not how we experience a pair of speakers which are set up in front of us; with speakers, your right ear will hear both speakers to some extent, and the sound comes from out front. Almost all music is mastered with the intent of listening through stereo speakers. A crossfeed feature is a basic attempt to make headphones have more of a speaker like experience, but this DSP will be a much more advanced and realistic experience. If you can’t set up a acoustically treated room, 7.1.4 speaker system in your home or apartment or bedroom, then this might sound better than what you can do with the speakers. And for first person games, it’s almost like cheating!

I know the spatial tech is suitable, but is this particular product? :p

Yeah I wish I could tell you about this one specifically 😅 It’s cool that it has HDMI though, that’s fairly unique. And it SEEMS LIKE it would also be good for gaming, since it uses 2.4 GHz wireless instead of laggy Bluetooth, and I’m sure the device is capable of keeping video and audio in sync, but it’s hard to know without testing if the response time stays intact. For this price, I could name a few other features I’d like, but it still has its appeal.
